What tractor to buy

Hey everyone, been reading this post for quite a while finally got off by back side and registered!! I am looking to buy a bigger tractor but not quite sure what size. Looking at the TC55 but with all the problems that have been posted esp. with the steering I am leary. Maybee a TN60 or 75 basically I want more loader capacity and a little more pto hp. Any thoughts are appreciated. Would like to stay in the New Holland brand as I have had great luck with my tc40d, other issue is am I going to take a bath on trading this one in only 2 years old. How long should I wait to trade (years or hours)

From a brief look at your profile and your desire for more, bigger, etc, I think you should go with a TN/A. I just don't think the jump from a 40 to a 55 is significant.

Model numbers aside.. what hp are you looking for... what tasks?

As for taking a bath? why not try to trade in.. on a trade in? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I picked up my NH 7610s from the dealer that sold it.. it had 720 hrs on it and one bent fender. The owner was using it to mow in an orange grove and the thing was just too big he took it back for a tc48 as I recall. I got a super awesome couldn't pass it up kind of deal.. and traded in my beloved NH 1920.. that I had just bought from that same dealer 3ys before. It too had about 700 hrs on it when i got it.

Perhaps a couple year 'agg' tractor like somthing similar to mine would be a good size up.. and not beat up the wallet so bad.

If yuo can find a 6xxx or 7xxx series tractor in good condition.. check them out.

I agree with RickB about buying the TN. With your acreage you can surely justify that larger tractor. You might consider an orchard model with the exhaust stack turned down so it doesn't present itself as a target for tree limbs. The TN series will offer you lots of options. If I ever trade in my TC45D, I'll be looking at a TN75. Unfortunately, that's also a whole step up in everything else: implements size, towing trailer, etc., etc..

You might try selling your TC outright, but I think I'd check with your dealer on a trade-in first as Soundguy suggested. That way you'd know all the facts before making a decision to trade-in or sell outright.

You can get that exhaust as a kit for any TN, right? Is it turned down like the TCs, or is it actually horizontal? Does it point forward? I've heard about it, but I don't guess I've actually ever seen one.

Horizontal exhaust is standard on TNF(A)'s and can be installed on other TN's and TNA's. The exhaust is directed down and to the rear, discharging near the LH step in just about the same location as on the 'F' tractors. Just ordered parts for a TN60 this week rather than replacing a damaged upright pipe. The kit for the non- A tractors has been discontinued, we had to order it by the piece.

I know what you mean about trading in. It's tough competition getting top dollar with a newer tractor when compared to the low interest rate deals that are out there.

You have a heck of a lot of acreage for a TC40. I have much less acreage, and I wish I had something bigger than my TC40. If you have a good relationship with your dealer, maybe they'll let you try a TN series out a little on-site? It never hurts to ask.

That sounds like a good solution for the exhaust. It should keep the gases below and behind the operator platform. I just wonder how often you see damage to an exhaust stack on the larger tractors? Maybe most people aren't as careless as I am, but I'd have a hard time not hitting limbs. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
