You need to specify engines. The hp/torque curve for my old Kubota 19hp "B" series, and my old 1941 Farmall-A were essentially the same.
However, the old Farmall engine had twice the cubic inches, and used more fuel.
The Farmall and the Kubota could eat a 20-25hp lawn tractor engine for lunch...
Reminds me of the late 50's, early 60's LaFrance fire engines. Some had monster gas engines, and got 2 mpg.

Personally I believe that when comparing the two you should probably cut the rated power of the gas by a factor of two to level the playing field.
