What TV did you watch as a kid?

Most people didn't repair their own televisions mainly because of the 20kV+ crt anode high voltage (some people killed).
Tubes were about the extent of most people's abilities hence Drug stores had tube testers I'm sure most older folks remember.
I made a very good living repairing TVs.

My wife and I used to work in a department store that had a tube tester. Her dad would bring a paper bag of tubes in, test them, buy what he needed, then go home and fix his set.

Not Marlin, he sat back and gave blow by blow while Jim was the one always getting beat up by pissed off animals. It was at those moments that Jim probably wished he had gone to college.

I can remember when the drug stores and Radio Shack had a tube tester and sold replacement tubes....

Well, the drug stores are still here, but no tube tester and Radio Shack is long gone. The person who created the Radio Shack set on Young Sheldon did an excellent job. The set looks like the old stores. The products, posters, layout, product boxes, etc.

When I was a teen I was more interested in hearing the hits on the radio in the evening. Of course, everything was on AM back in those days and the 15kHz horizontal oscillator in those old CRT tvs had harmonics up into the broadcast band. Of course always landing on the stations I wanted to listen to!
