My PT-425 bought in Dec 2000 came with Titan Power Trac 23x10.50x12s. What type of bar times comes on the new ones?

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the Titan Power Trac tire is being discontinued. Carlisle bought Dico/Titan, or at least their smaller tires (if not the whole company). Late last summer, I could find Power Trac tires but only at a few places, such as Cedar Rapids Tire. I can't find them now in this size at all, even on Carlisle's site. The Carlisle site only shows a 23x8.50x12 Power Trac (in the 12" size), but they do have Tru Power and Super Lug tires in the 23x10.50x12 size...

I thought it was kinda neat that the name on the tires matched the name on the tractor -- I know, I know, simple people have simple pleasures /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif -- but I guess that won't be the case when it is time to replace them...

Just curious what comes on the new machines... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Kent.

My OEM tires are Carlisle Super Lugs, 23-10.50x12. Cedar Rapids Tire carries them {HERE} at $64 and change per tire.

For ~$12 more per tire, I like the 6 ply Titan/Carlisle Tru Power lug tire, also shown at the same webpage.

Thanks for that info!

I also like the Tru Powers more than the Super Lugs...

How does that tire handle your grass? Any scuffing or ripping of the grass when mowing?

To be honest, I've done virtually no mowing with my PT. However, I've worked all over the lawn with it doing other things. A PT doesn't really scuff in normal use regardless of the tires used.

About the only time you could get some scuffing with these is if you're sitting still and articulating back and forth, like when using the minihoe. If the ground is really soft and wet, the bars will leave "little dimples" in the ground.

For anything other than mowing, I don't want turf tires, even on a traditional garden tractor. I have one Simplicity with 10.50 turfs that I mow with, and a matching Allis-Chalmers with bar tires that does virtually everything else (tilling, plowing, blade work, etc.).

I've mowed with the OEM bar tires for 2 seasons, and now into my third. I have never had any scuffing or rubbing. At most, if I mow when the dew is heavy, I'll see some flattening of the grass, but it disappears as soon as the sun hits it and it dries. I maintain the TPs as per FOURTEEN's old recommendation of 7 psi F and 11 psi R

Wasn't his recommendation the opposite, with the higher pressure in the front tires to handle loads? That's the way I have mine, at least... but I certainly may be wrong! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ooops! Glad you caught my "dys-type-ia"!

It is indeed 11 psi FRONT and 7 psi REAR.
