What type PTO?

2 ways to work this...throwout bearing would release the clutch, or, it would apply pressure to engage. Either way, it's a lot of force on the crank thrust bearing. Kubota used to instruct to release the clutch via the handle, shift the PTO off, then re-engage the clutch. On newer machines, like the TN's they beefed up the thrust bearings to handle the continuous thrust.

Neither the release bearing nor the crankshaft thrust bearings could tolerate the axial loading this type of arrangement creates.

Exactly, right on the money:thumbsup:. Their literature (Deere) also emphasize it. I personally think this design is not a good one. Normal position needs be least damaging to mechanical components. In the live double clutch that we know, with clutch out both disks are engaged, throw out bearings are idle and not being used up and worked and only come to play for relatively a very brief periods in comparasion of hrs of pto work. The only draw back might be sticking let say pto disk to flywheel or pressure plate and of one can choose to lightly block the clutch.

depends onthe setup.. but generally ind pto machines have a single plate clutch, and then some other type of clutched driveline for the pto downstream.. either hyd actuated.. or mechanically.
