What type steel to use in FEL rebuild?

I think A36 plate for the bucket and 1018 mild steel for wear strips should be fine. If the 1018 starts wearing down, caught in time, it's easy enough to replace with a new strips.

If only used in dirt its fine. When ised to push snow off asphalt, or scoop manure from a concrete bunk, mild steel disappears as snow before the sun.

I built my own bucket for plowing snow. 50 percent wider and also a little taller to speed up the process. It's only been used to plow snow on a gravel drive but shows no wear after two full seasons. I used 11ga. mild steel for the bucket and 3/8 x 3 mild steel for the cutting bar after being unable to source anything else economically. No wear bars or hard surfacing and I'm happy with the results.

I agree. The type of usage and surface hardness might dictate some tougher steel.
