What was Kubota thinking?

I guess my question, then, is why would one need to apply and overcome the brake to tighten the strap. The HST ought to hold it long enough to put on the brake after you let the hst move to neutral.

As I have said, I don't know enough about small tractor brakes to know if what has been described as reasonable. It wouldn't be necessary on mine.

On my tractor, the brakes are on the left(no clutch at all), but I don't use them except to set to get off the tractor(or maybe change range on a hill). I would like to use them at times(not often) for directional control, but I am not ambifootreous. :)

Having gone through "feature selection" in the R&D stage of a project, I can tell you that it is hard to imagine the pressure, the conflict, and the recriminations! :)

Thanks for the discussion.

Best Regards
Chris

Dynasim, sounds like your hydro or brakes may stick on a bit? While my hydro will slow you from moving as if you have hit the brakes, it’s a gentle gradual slowing. My machine will roll on an incline in neutral with engine running. I don’t have a service manual yet on it, but my guess would be this is normal and for a machine to not roll on an incline might suggest the brake is sticking on a bit?

But to answer your question. The strap while pulling a tree or stretching fence is under considerable force, way more than the hydro would hold in neutral. If I were to pull on the strap then let go of the hydro, the machine would roll back toward the object I’m pulling on.
