What was that big WHOOMMP!! sound?

Just yesterday I barely missed the whoomp sound in the mower when the tractor refused to roll over the chain saw that had slipped off ...fortunately, didn't just instinctively put tractor into 4wd, lock rear dif and press forward ...did bury the saw some, but ground was soft and it still runs fine (saw, that is ...and tractor runs fine, too)

Not mower related, but I did go out Monday to smooth out the nice pile of clay I was left with when they installed a water valve/tap in my front yard. I can't tap into this, because I am not "in the city". They graciously installed one as they put a in new water main on the other side of the road......for the future if I ever decide to annex to the city.
I used the toothbar to loosen up the ground a bit, then turned around to use the box blade. Lowered it to smooth things out and lost traction as I took off. backed up, put it in 4WD, tried again.....no good. Raised the blade a bit and poured the fuel to 'er.......I now have a nice 5' long water valve shut off casing laying on top of the ground /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The water line and valve are down there somewhere, just the casing laying on top of the ground. I think I'll just dispose of it. When and if they ever need to connect water, they'll need to excavate to connect a water line anyway /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Inspector: hopefully there is not LEAKAGE there! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif they may want to know WHO messed it up too! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif play the dumb game, not sure someone came and fixed it while you were away... watch out for sink holes now too! hahaha

I almost got my barn door the other day cutting to fast exiting as the rfm swung out.

I also ran over a bunch of trees mostly the ones I planted /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The valve should still be intact. This was just the sleeve down to the valve to turn it on/off..........I hope /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Looks like a "saddle" that straddled the valve.

Be a man about it and call the water authority and tell them what happened. I am certain that they will come back and repair it for free. After all, it was an accident that was caused by them not cleaning up the mess that they created. It isn't like you deliberately destroyed the valve box. That valve was put there for your benefit and someday, you will thank them for it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"they installed a water valve/tap in my front yard"

I'd think the key to that would be whether it was in a right of way or not.

I did that once with a gas tap. The building had burnt down and they had just dropped a sack of concrete over the shut off valve and let the rain wet it down. Five or ten years later I come along and go to grade the property for a car lot. I hit the concrete, back up and hit it again and WHOOSH! That can make you a little nervous. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I put my cell phone in the box on my fender and it popped out while going along. You want to see the salesman laugh as I try to talk him into giving me a new one to replace this flat one! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Didn't happen to me, but could have. A friend mowing with his new, to him, Ford and a RFM. Made a pass down the side of his house and turned right. Unfortunately the RFM being behind the tractor turned LEFT, and took his gas meter right off the side of the house. Fortunately no fire, but he was nervous until the gas company arrived to shut it off.

Back when I was younger and dumber(but not much) I had an airboat. Had a guy with me that got hot and took off his jacket and put it on the seat...this is about 5+- in front of an aircraft motor turning a 72 inch prop at about 3200 rpm ....Do you know what happens when a jacket hits a wood prop at that speed? I do
Each end of prop goes its own way (one up and one down....down not being a good thing in a boat)
lots of metal goes in the general direction of the prop tips
motor is ripped from the motor stand
and you wade back through the swamp

I LOL about it now.....(but not much)
oh yea that made a "wooomp"
