What was that movie?

Brilliant reminder of a great film. Gonna go get it and watch it this weekend. Funny how you forget about stuff.

One of my top 5 favorite movies.

Some of the best stunt driving and flying sequences ever filmed. Paul Mantz and Frank Tallman did the flying stunts. Tallman flew the Beech 18 through the styrofoam billboard which supposedly did substantial damage to the wing leading edges and prop spinners, and caused the engines to overheat.

I stumbled across a website some time ago that had "then and now" location photos of where certain scenes were shot in the movie. Pretty interesting to see the areas in the desert that looked barren are now all developed.

The desolate intersection where Pike's furniture truck rams the Imperial now has a casino and is all built up. Also in the middle of the desert where Jack Benny stops to offer assistance is all developed now.

The "California Incline" where the taxis race up the hill going to the fictional "Santa Rosita State Park", which was actually a private estate, looked about the same. Only one of the palm trees that made up the "Big W" remains.

Well, the humor is somewhat adult...you may appreciate it more when you mature (10-15 years hence).
Hahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahaha!!!!

I remember "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World". Saw it in the movies. It was in Cinerama, if I recall correctly.

I remember seeing it in some kind of special way, you may be right that it was "Cinerama" or something like that.

Darn this being old....could remember so much more if it were not for my failing memory...

Not all theaters had capability for Cinerama. That was mostly "first run" theaters. There was only one (the "Town" theater) in Baltimore, MD at that time which is where we (family and I) saw it.

Did a Google search on the subject and leaned a lot...we saw the film back about when it was new, in the Detroit Michigan area..pretty sure it was just a Ultra Panavision for single lens Cinerama...

1st time is saw it we went to a "drive in" some of you will remember those:) The second time we watched it, my parents went to the local library and rented it I think on 16mm, yes it was roll tape:laughing::laughing: That was "block Buster" for us in the 60' and 70's

Great film.
Why I think it worked so well because none of them were actually acting. They were all character actors just "acting" they way they do every day.
You know, there were actors in that movie that were not listed in the credits of the movie. Jack Benny was one. Even the directors had fun with it.

Truly one of the classics of all time. How they ever got Ethyl Merman or Spencer Tracy to do that film must be a story in itself.

Yes it was a good movie, by the way, they did a remake of it and it was called "Rat Race" Also very funny, I almost gave my self a hernia laughing so hard-especially the scene where they try to stop the airport radar with a bronco winch.
