What weed is this and how do I get rid of it?

Here in south Georgia that is called a maypop. They grow in fencerows and on the banks of dirt road ditches. Never tried to kill one except by mowing.

Here in NC they are called Molly Pops.

Maypop's down here were kinda hollow with a seed inside, real thin shell. They weren't hard like these melons. The picture you show is exactly what we called 'smell-apple' or 'smell-melon' when we farmed cotton. We would get them in the cotton fields. Made good fun throwing them at each other when we met in the field on open-cab 2-row pickers.

That pic is exactly what we have down here near the coast.

That should clear it up.

Can't remember what we sprayed on them. Maybe MSMA or DSMA. I would think anything with 2-4d would work.

Also, I wouldn't run them over. If I remember correctly it's got 100's of seeds. And I don't think they would taste too good. Bitter or very sour.
