Hi all,
I have a little something going on. I am looking for some input from all the MF owners who have dealt with a dealer. What did the dealer or sales person do right or wrong? What made it a "make or break" sale?? Was it price? Was it putting down another brand? I am just looking for input on what makes a sale to a customer. I know price has allot to do with it, but sometimes that is only a factor in what makes a decision.

I just bought a GC2310 last Monday. I shopped all the major brands for about 4 months. This would be general overview for all dealers not just the one I bought from. When I bought I knew what I wanted and what the price was, when I shopped I wanted to know everything.

Dealer did right - Paid attention to what my needs were and found the product that fit my needs best. The salesperson needs to be knowledgable, I don't want an I don't know answer. I don't want anyone to just come out and put down another brand, I would like them to know the competition and what the differences between their machine and the others. Prompt return calls.

Dealer did wrong - overly aggressive, not knowing his machine ( I knew more than he did), poor return phone calls. Putting down the competition. Disorganization - could be overlooked if staff was exceptionally knwoledgable - they knew where things were if I didn't. Overly large dealers where you seemed to be just another number, didn't care what you wanted.

When it came down to it, I found the best price at the best dealer. Although the best price was not at the best dealer, I went to the dealer that was highly recommended by others, a compromise.

dealer owned the dealership with his dad for years.
he treats everyone like a friend and with respect.
no BS.
If he doesn't know something he calls the district MF rep.
He personally brought my tractor out to my land with all the implements.
He assured me if there is anything wrong HE will be there for me.
Only dislike: he forgot to weld the hooks on my bucket but didnt charge me anyhow . will get it done at 50 hrs.

I shopped for 6 months before buying my MF last week. I found some dealers that were really good and some that were useless and actually had the attitude that they really didn't seem to care if they sold a tractor or not. :rolleyes:

One Kubota dealer that I was about ready to sign on the dotted line for was VERY knowledgable, courteous and not pushy. In fact, the "salesman" that I was working with turned out to be the owner of that particular dealer and when I told him that I wanted to look at the MF before committing to the Kubota, he replied that I should find the tractor that I'm most comfortable with. I liked that.

When I went to the MF dealer, I talked to the owner also and he was VERY knowledgable and knew his products well (as he should). He showed me every aspect of it. Was not in a rush and took his time with me. Even called his service guy out to demo it for me and then allowed me to operate it at will, which I did. This dealer had hundred-thousand dollar tractors on his lot but was just as enthusiastic about potentially selling me a $15k tractor. :)

They handled the paperwork quickly. Said they would call me at 8:10 the next morning to get directions to my house. They called at EXACTLY 8:10 and I had the tractor in my driveway an hour later. :)

I have no complaints with the specific dealer except for one issue that may or may not be the dealers fault: failure to grease one hinge pin which caused me some frustration. See my other recent post here.

I went to a dealer several years ago. I knew the exact model that I wanted and the options that I wanted on it. All the sales person had to do was work out a price with me. All he wanted to do was MAKE me buy a different model. After trying to tell him that I knew exactly what I wanted about three times, I turned around and walk off while he was still talking. About two hours later, I had a tractor bought and was working out when they could deliver it. I bought it from a dealer that would listen.

Nothing went wrong with the final purchase,but....When I first started shopping for a subcompact I originally looked at green. I was window shopping at a dealer and told the salesman so. I had hoped to someday buy one. when I asked about prices he told me to come back when I was closer to buying. Couple months later I was at a Massey/Kubota dealer doing the same thing, daydreaming of owning one. The salesman there showed me their tractors,let me try them side-by-side (GC/BX/B7510), went thru the numbers, factory financing and what do you know, I found out that I could afford it. He made a sale (after I cleared it with the wife). The customer service he showed there also appeared after delivery. he called a couple times to find out how I liked the tractor and if I had any problems. Came out once after I lost my float (45minutes one way). He attitude was a new tractor should not have any problems. I searched this board and took the advice-find the tractor that suits you, and the dealer you a comfortable with. My only complaints about the tractor have nothing to do with the dealer.

I knew the first time I laid eyes on the model tractor I bought that it was for me. Most dealers at that time were still accomodating and interested in their customers well being. I went to the 3 dealers nearest to home. #1 wasn't interested in a free delivery. I thought that was the very least they could do. #2 wanted "full retail". No break, no deal. #3 brought the tractor out to the farm even though I hadn't inked the deal yet. They let me use it for a couple days. Then they made good on a price quoted 2 months earlier in a casual conversation. This coming May 8th, that will be 36 years ago. I STILL do my trading with the same dealer. Only thing I'd do different today? I'd buy TWO MF150's instead of just the one. I got my moneys worth 10 times over.

Both tractors that I have purchased have been from excellent dealers. The first was a used Kubota from a MF/Kubota dealer. It was my first tractor and the salesman was always helpful and patient during my many phone calls.
The MF that I have now was purchased from a family business, it is also used, sort of, it was less that 2 years old with 140hrs. He gave me $1000 more on the trade for my Kubota that a Kubota dealer was going to, and that was without seeing the tractor. They seem to be folks that take a man at his word. I have not had any issues with the tractor at all. This particular dealer was also about $800 dollars less on a new tractor that another dealer several miles further away.
Only downside, minor, is that the driver who delivered the tractor was not very familiar with all of the controls, but it did come with the manual.

Contrary to popular belief it rarely boils down to a price only issue.... especially when you are actually referring to legitimate working machinery. I mean lets face it.... this is not Rural King or Sears where we are hageling over a 1000.00 to 1800.00 dollar lawn mower. I purchased a more expensive tractor from a dealer that is substantially further away. The two main reasons I did that is.... 1. I personally feel the MF is a better machine. My little GC2310 acts like a piece of machinery not like an overpriced over grown lawn mower. I studied and test drove all of the big manufacturers units ( NH, Deer, Kubota, and I looked at the Mahindra's and the Branson's). ... 2nd, The dealership ( Props go out to Rudoplh Bro's in Booneville Indiana ) Did not feed me a line of sales tactics, they were knowledgable about their unit as well as the competition. There was no manufacturer or dealer bashing or down talk. That is the fastest way to run a customer off. If you have to talk bad about a dealer, or a product line, that tells me that you have no services, products or education to offer that are better than your competition. They were simply straight shooters, went out of their way, offered to meet me after hours and even on a Sunday at the dealership to show me around. They explained to me the capabilities of the machine, exactly what it could and could not do and they matched it to my criteria.... "What kind of dirt work are you doing?" this is what to expect.... ect....
I have had my little unit for about 2 weeks now and already have just shy of 30hrs on it and I have not even cut the **** grass yet.... I am in still 100% completely satisfied with my purchase.

I shopped for about 12 mos, looked at every competitor out there. Several salemen made me dislike their machine because they were to aggressive and put down other brands. There is only 1 MF dealer within reasonable distance so I had limited choice but he worked with me on price (financing was another selling point- 0% at the time)

I think that the GC compares to many of the compacts in built quality and performance and just seemed like a better designed and bigger tractor that what it really is.
