Following was posted on the Longwaves financial forum on what life in the U.S. was like 100 years ago. Anyone care to venture what the next 100 years will bring?

My own quick thoughts, in no particular order, are:

1. Reliance on oil will diminish...alternative energy sources will become prevalent;
2. Reverse migration patterns will predominate with rural areas once again gaining in population at the expense of urban areas;
3. People, in general, in effort to live at peace with one another will spend more time, resources, and efforts thinking of others rather than themselves.
4. There will be a cure for cancer.
5. Biggest computer applications will be in areas of robotics and biotechnology.
6. Travel to other planets will become feasible.
7. Life expectancy will not be much greater than it is now.

Rancar,your optomistic outlook for the next 100 years is refreshing but,if recent events are an indicator of things to come mans learning curve will have to extend to the stratosphere to get us there in time for 3003........Mike

PS enjoyed the piece on the last 100 though.

Well, my late grandmother(98yrs) was born in 1896. She spent 4 weeks on a boat to get to the US. She lived way out in the country(about 10 blocks from the center of present day town). The people next door had a horse(they were rich). She saw the telephone, electricity to houses, automobiles, central air, airplanes, TV and on and on come into common life. Most of the big changes for her came right after WWII. The rest were refinements of existing things(cell phones and automatic transmissions). As I was growing up, we were expecting to have flying cars in every garage by the year 2000, so I am a little disappointed /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Don't worry Dave. The flying cars are coming. Even now, they are undergoing tests. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Maybe, by the end of the decade we'll have roads in the sky. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif See attached link.

Hopefully I get to see the time when people who practice partison polotics get tarred and feathered.

What kind of tractor will he drive?

Please don't respond to this attempt at humor by me, thanks. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Oh yeah, I've seen that one.

All I remember is the covers of Popular Science and Popular Machanics while sitting in the Doctor or Dentist offices as a kid, and I really wanted those flying cars... the future has let me down! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Have you guys seen the ad by Ford that says drive a vehicle because Jesus would? It was a car. It is obvious to me these people don't know the story, was'nt Jesus a carpenter? man I'm thinking he would be driving like a early 70's dodge 4x4 with ladder racks and a toolbox in back/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
