Something I forgot to mention previously: the RC was attached to a quick hitch that the dealer threw in for me. Does that effect how I would set the mower up to prevent a repeat occurance, or are all the fundamentals still the same?

I would thinkt he Quick Hitch might definately been the cause of the bending. If's it's like the one I have and don't use, it does not allow the U joint to operate properly. If that was my mower I would just ignore the bends in thos arms. Theleverage you get when backing up is pretty big. If the rear wheel turns side ways and touches the ground that is enough to bend those arms. If the bends bothered me to look at, I would replace them with chains. The mower will not flip up and get you. I've been brush hogging for 40 plus years and all of my mowers have bent parts. Mostly from backing up,

Why not just replace the top link with a length of chain? Once you get the length the back will not go lower, hower it can raise freely not putting the pressure on. Just a thought ... if theres a reason not to use a chain ... please tell us.
