why is it people think you need power 24/7 during an emergency?

aren't any of you guys interested in conserving or rationing fuel.

in florida when we had the bad storms.. we went 2 weeks in some areas with no convienience stores / gas stations open.

running a genny 24/7 was not even an option.

that takes care of the tied up tractor as well.

tie the tractor up when you need power.. the other 98% of the time it can be doing storm cleanup.

I agree totally. And how long does it take to disconnect a PTO?? Seconds, then do your chores, hook back up.

Having alternate forms of heat , like my case, means the tractor would sleep at night just like the rest of us.

For some it seems they have a tractor for the status of it, and not to work it .

yep, and are afraid to work it.. they think running at pto rpms for hous is abusive to it.. yet.. you mow for hours at pto rpm and that's normal use..

I wouldn't run it 24/7 either. Unless there were medical reasons. I would run it enough to keep the freezers frozen and the pipes from freezing, then shut it off. I would not try to live normally, that would lighten the wallet to much. Still wouldn't hurt the tractor though, unless it ran itself out of oil, or coolant.

if I had a medical reason needing 24/7 power.. THEN I would have an auto xfer setup with a stationary genny... barring that.. power on demand is fine for me..

and in a case where fuel resources are not certain.. runing 24/7 in a non medical situation would IMHO.. be wastefull..
