What would you do?

The simple answer is to go to the owner of the dealership and very nicely express your disappointment in the delivered tractor and clearly state you can not trust this unit anymore and would like a new replacment. He will contact the zone rep and get you a new unit it should not be a big deal as it is an accepted policy for JD. If the dealer gives you resistance then run like the wind!

I don't know what a 2210 costs new, but I know what I just paid for a 4710. As much as for a new car. Imagine if you went to buy a new car, and before you signed papers or exchanged money, you discovered your car in the service bay torn apart to that extent with the engine and transmission in pieces all over the shop. It would not give ME a "warm-fuzzy" about that particular unit.
How would you handle it at the CAR dealer?

Just a thought.

This, if all true, is an easy one.

Common sense would dictate the following.

If I'm the dealer's sales manager, I realize I'm in serious jeopardy of losing a customer and having a wounded machine to put back on the lot (or possibly return to Corp. HQ). A new machine should be offered before you can even ask for one.

If this doesn't pan out, walk. Even if it's to another green shop for another new 2210.

Forget about any other type of concession ($$$) for this machine.

The other poster hit the nail on the head. Imagine finding you're 4.5 miles new Ford Taurus with the body off and the drive train scattered all over the shop floor. This rarely happens.

A car is a car and a tractor is a tractor, granted. But a dollar is a dollar.

My too sense.

Well, from my experience, it could be a blessing in disguise.

I spent $15,000 of hard earned and saved cash to buy my first CUT a few years ago. I was stupid and blind because I wanted a tractor. Period. I spent more time on TBN than I could imagine, and made up my mind to get a Kubota B7500. My mind was set on a JD4115, but thet's a whole different gripe. Anyway, I narrowed it down to two dealers, one of which was $1,500 less expensive. I didn't have the money to spare, so I bought the"cheaper" one and have regretted (this portion) of it ever since.

You see, I had problems out of the box. Little ones, not mechanical (like yours), but they always got minimized by the dealer I bought from. To me, $15,000 is waaaay too much to spend on someting and not be satisfied. I'm not petty, but I do expect it to be right from the factory, or to be rectified by the dealer with no gripes... especially if it was their problem in the first place. Yours clearly is a Deere problem... the manufacturer equals the dealer. They should be in your corner. Mine dealer is/was not in my corner.

So, let us boil it down to this...

A tractor is for most of us a long-term investment. Will this dealer perform now when they are trying to sell you a tractor? How about on warranty work? Better yet, how about on work after the warranty runs out? Mine ran me around so long that I bought the "nice guy" routine, and that they were "working" on it. Yeah, woking on it alright... right out of warranty. I never realized the long Kubota warranty was on the tractor/engine... not the attachments/implements.

If they do not offfer you some sort of break on that unit (if you want it), or offer you some sort of discount for your trouble, I would consider other options. You exchanged no signatures and no money. That constitutes no deal. They should have rushed to you with another unit and made that effort to "sell" you a tractor. Instead, it's in the shop and you are not even back to ground zero...you are worse because you are now in a quandry. before, you just wanted to buy a tractor... now you don't know what to do. You didn't own that one you "test drove" and they don't own you. Choose carefully.

I was ignorant. My dealer saved me money, but has cost me in the long run. The old standby "It's out of warranty" claim now prevails. I say... "What about the past X months of me following up with you" and "We are still working on it"? Thanks for dragging it out, guys. In all, what I am really discouraged about is what I will face down the road when I have to take it in for some major service that I cannot perform myself. It won't go back there... that's for sure. I'd rather "assume the position" for a dealer I didn't buy the tractor from rather than the the dealer who took my money and now spits in my face. Funny thing is, the small dealer's reputation is catching up with it, and I will do everything I can to help it along. Don't make the same mistake I did. Check your options. Maybe an extended warranty IF you go with the unit you drove. A discount on some attachments for your hassles?

I would say the dealer has shown his comitment to customer satisfaction letting you have the unit to try out before you sighned any paper work. If it were me. I would sit down with the big dawg and tell him about myself a little. This is my first and last tractor, It is a lifetime investment ,money is hard ta come by and must be spent wisely. Thats why im at HIS deere house. I fully understand that the dealership had nothing ta do with the missing gasket. And that I will buy my filters and whatever I may need for my tractor from now on from his dealership. I dont EXPECT nothin for nothin . I Want what i am paying you for at the price I agreed on same as before. BUT!, this unit ain't it. Get me another one washed up and delivered , where do i sign? Thats just me /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif If he dont get it or understand where im coming from " have a good one big guy" No harm done. The rude potlicker , well, maybe he just found out his girlfriend run of with a KABOTA guy! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif No meaness intended! I could have happened! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Trust me this is a true story. JD Promise doesnt cover Compact tractors.

I went over to them today and had a discusion. I told him I was not going to buy that unit, period and that the low range didnt work in it either. He just could not believe me as I stated before about the low range.

He said he would get me another unit, but I had to sign before he would do it..

So I told him to call me next week and we will see what is what..

Also, He was concerned about the loader and front blade he ordered for it. I offered to pay one year intrest on his cost of the items at 7% if the whole deal goes south..Plus I told him he can still sell my trade-in unit on consignment and possably recoup 700-1000 dollars on that to help offset the deal, if it all goes south..But I told him I wasn`t happy with the service dept guy(that is weighing high on my decision) and I am not buying that particular tractor..

Good for you. As consumers, we need to stand our ground (even when we get all weak-kneed at the sight of green and yellow) Thats too much cash to be plunking down on an obviously sub-par built tractor.

Well he is kinda trying I guess /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I would most likly take my toys and go home. I have never paid for anything i couldn't put my hand on in my life. Myself, I would go somewhere else that had some inventory on hand, I would spit on my finger ,put a big ol slobbery x on a wheel "I would like this one please sir" where do I sign! Only you no what will please you. Go with yer gut, seams the dealer thinks he is doing you a favor. Good luck hand. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I could not accept that machine either. In the back of my mind I would always wonder if there would be more problems, more headaches and possible loss of money down the road.

Don't pay the dealer anything....nada..zipo. If the dealer is worth his salt, he will bring a new unit in with no obligation to you. I wish customers would pay me every time they backed out of a deal....of course, as a car dealer with a great rep. I never keep deposits or gripe about broken deals...it's not worth the negative publicty, even when customers break the law.

If you are set on green, go to another dealer and tell them the story, and I bet they will bend over backwards to earn your business. You don't owe the dealer anything...period.

When I bought my first CUT, I decided on the NH TC21D, but it was a toss up with the B7500 Kubota......the dealer dropped it off, I got home from work at 10:15 PM and they dropped it off WITH NO FUEL!!!! Barely enough to get up the drive!!!! Well, i had a change of heart, and told them to come pick it up...and I wound up with the Kubota.
