Looks like some of the stuff people ask me to take on trade. Just needs a little bit of work, like everything!!

I used to take on a lot of broken down projects because I knew I had the ability to fix them up, but like others have stated and my wife reminds me of all the time, I'm going to die some day!! Have only so much time on this planet and you have to carefully pick what to spend it on.

My mom always used to tell me that if it's any good, it wouldn't be for sale. Used to get a laugh out of that coming from someone with no mechanical knowledge but there were times she was right. I'm just like the next guy and if I can actually save some money, I will but there are times when you just have to sign the papers and enjoy actually using something for a change rather that working on it.

Everyone is different too and I happen to HATE junk!! If it drips and leaks and needs kicked here to get this thing to work, it drives me crazy and I will fix it while the whole thing is turning upside down as far as value vs investment.

This is the main reason that I turn trades as fast and as fair as I can. I know myself too well and once I start digging into something, I end up with a complete rebuild on my hands that I don't have time, money, or space for.

As others have said, don't walk, but run away from this idea!!

If you are looking to tinker, find out what it is and what value the parts have and see if you could sell all the good parts on ebay to make a few bucks!

Go back and look at the pics again. The loader bucket is still in the raised position, and off of the ground. Same for hoe. How many of your tractors will sit till the tire goes flat and still have the hydraulics up? It doesn't appear to be blocked up (loader) or chained up (hoe). Little paint and your good to go:D

Ok, y'all have convinced me and I really wasn't going to get it anyways because as I stated earlier, I'm no tractor mechanic and the cost of labor alone would probably break me on this. I'm still going to drop by from time to time and hopefully get a little closer look at some of the "stuff" on it though. A lot of you have got me curious as to what parts might be salvagable. I'm real curious now about the motor, I'll definitly have to take a real close look at that. But even today I saw three (newer models) on the side of some roads for sale by owner. I didn't stop to see what they were asking. I guess it must be getting close to spring and a few people want some new toys! Well, as for the wife and I, we'll take the old and make it new to us! :D

And if y'all haven't checked it out, Proxibid.com has got some AWESOME auctions coming up for farm equipment. There's going to one in Kansas soon that has a lot of old John Deere tractors and implements plus a whole slew of other farm stuff. Even if you don't bid, at least you can see what some of those things you been wanting are going for.

thanks again!

StevenPaul,
"it can be fixed"---Anything can be fixed. This is like when my wife discusses the kitchen project we have coming up this summer with our carpenter, he keeps telling her "Sure, it can be done. We can do anything you want!" Me thinks it was a good decision to pass on this one.

I wonder if John Bud would like a new project, since he has about gotten his backhoe back in operation?
If this thing would fit my JD, I would consider it, but I am a glutton for punishment. Spending the time to remount it on my JD is a little more than i would want, plus having to fix all the hydraulics.

This is key, if you have to pay someone to get this fixed it would cost you a small fortune.

The International 384 below was almost my first Tractor. Cost $500. A beater for sure but $500. My BIL had owned it from day one and beat the crap out of it. I had just rebuilt the motor in my garage several months earlier. The main problem with it was the hi/lo sync gear/bearing/thingy was wasted and it would only stay in low range. 4th gear was also gone and reverse was beat up. So it needed broken in half. The dealer wanted a grand or more to fix it. Beater as it was I ran it on various things for a few months. Again $500 and it ran. He ended up trading it and another beater (MF 1080) for a Ford 6000.

I think it's a 45hp tractor and had some weight and power. I second guess myself several times. The dealer had it on their website as a parts tractor. For me it would have been a working...allbeit rough looking...tractor. And it would saved me some garage space because I would NOT have worried about garaging this sucker....:D I'm still happy with my L.
