came by this today at the junkyard where I get my metal, the guy told me what he'd take for it but I was curious as to what y'all might pay for this. Story is that some guy rebuilt the motor on it, started it, it quit running, and never started again. I haven't gone over it with a microscope and don't know how long it's been sittin but the guy said "it is" repairable. So from just the couple pics I took, does anybody have any idea what they'de be willing to pay for something like this? I don't know the make and model either.

Looks like a pile of junk, a real money pit. Pass it up. Just removing the FEL to work on the engine would be a real chore.

well, as y'all always are, right on the money and/or in the ball park, he said he'd take $1000 for it. And I agree with everybody on the "to much work" part. I could smell the burning money leaving my pocket just standing next to it. Or was that me? :D I'm by no means a tractor mechanic and the cost of just the legwork of getting all the right people to work on it would put me in the hole. I was hoping to possibly use some parts off it for those spur of the moment projects but some of you have said that even the parts I was thinkin about getting looked worn out and useless. I think he would part it out though as he told me he would sell me the backhoe seperate, but I don't have anything that would fit it. I guess I'll have to resort to, it's just fun to dream! Thanks for all the input and advice.

$500 tops

given the shape of the tires and hydrolics thati can see... youll have some serious $$ in it before you dig your first hole.

There is a reason that this stuff is in a place called a JUNK YARD, because that is all that it is, junk. Don't get me wrong, I get a few parts off of junk yard vehicles, but never the entire thing. Remember, it ended up there for a reason.

If money was no object it would be a chore at best to get er going again .

Might be a good project to keep a teenage kid out of trouble....if you could get him interested. It would keep him off the streets and give him something to put his money into that wouldn't kill him or saddle him with a family. Or, you could look at the $12K as tuition in a practical mechanics course for him. I used to love stuff like that when I was a kid; got a neighbor kid that's the same way now.

But $1000 seems high, and it looks pretty sad. I've got a thing about avoiding cracked blocks, and that thing looks like one could be hiding there.

If you're over age 25, I'd avoid it like the plague. Life's too short.

I'd much rather pay a little more and get something that's AT LEAST running and semi-usable. Starting with so much to do will get mighty costly. Unless you're comfortable with getting "upside down" on investment vs. worth, I'd steer clear, or at the most, $250 to $500.

It'll be a job moving a disabled backhoe too. The contractor I work for has several hoes. Case, Cat, and one Deere. On some jobs it's cheaper for us to rent and have delivered/picked up than to use our own and have to haul any great distance, even in running condition.

If it's a "project" you're looking for, I'd go with one that has a better chance of a positive outcome. JMHO

Looks like a Ford. I agree with everyone else, I would pass on this one. I have a Case 580 backhoe and just one 4 ft. hydraulic hose runs about $60. You will have a ton of money in that thing. I would look for a used running backhoe if you really want one. You will probably have the same amount of money in a running one with WAY less headaches...

I'd take a closer look. Does it actually look like it's had a rebuild (new gaskets, etc). Might get a good engine out of the deal. It might have just run out of diesel, when it started and died. Take a good battery and some new diesel out there and see if you can get it to fire off. Get the model and see what a running unit is selling for. You might be able to spend a little and make a lot. As some said, get it for a project.

Tractor looks kind of like me when I got married, a little rough around the edges, but my wife saw me for what I could become, not what I actually was.

Did I really say that??

How do y'all expect the junk man to make a living with attitudes like that? That looks to me like an opportunity disguised as rust and flat tires.:D
