What Year Ford 555 TLB is this?

Bought a Ford 555 TLB. Before ordering manuals for it ( everything works fine now but when the inevitable happens it's good to be prepared..) I really need to know what year & possibly letter designation after the 555. Machine was painted & has no Ford Graphics. Serial # CB54940. Torque Converter drive 4x4... Anybody able to help with where I'd find the info or can someone tell me based on the serial #?

Are you sure about that serial number? I think Ford TLB numbers are typically 6 numerals (without letters).

That was the serial number on the bill of sale. Machine has not been delivered yet to have an opportunity to check behind/above the starter to verify. Soon as thats done/verified, I'll repost the confirmed number. I'm suspicious it's a 555 with a letter after it which
I guess diferentiates the years... Really want to get the right manuals the first time. Then again is there that big a difference betweeen years that it would really matter in anything but the parts manual? I'm suspicious for the operators/repair manuals the year would really not be that critical except for the final year when they went 4 cylinder... Was 4x4 & torque converter drive offererd in the 555 early years?

The letter designates model changes, so it is important to verify the serial number to identify the proper parts manual. For example, on the 555B the tranny was made by Ford, but Kubota made the tranny on the D (think I got that right). Power reverse was offered at least in the early '80s, and I believe that a 4 cylinder model was available as early as 1970.

Keep an eye on ebay for manuals. I bought one for my 555E for $80 from the dealer, and then saw one on ebay later on that sold for $20.

Have the tractor home. Looked in the area above/behind the starter where I know the numbers are for the Agricultural tractors. It's real hard to see in there due to the loader /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. I didn't see any numbers.... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Is this where one finds the industrial tractor number or should I be looking elsewhere.. The thing is 4 cylinder, torque converter drive and has square headlights on the ropes cab. Most pictures I've seen of pre 1985 machines had round headlights. Most 555's 3 cylinder engines/this one 4 cylinder... Very confusing. THANKS in advance for any help!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Found the numbers on the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. NOW....what do they tell me /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Top Center number on the label-says tractor#-C779483
Theres another number underneath to the left but I can't make out what it says the numbers after it are for.. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Transmission number-7L27B
Axel # 7L25B

With these can anyone tell me the year/model of this machne?

Looks like a 555B, made in 1988. Hope this helps.

are you sure its not a 655?I have never seen a 555b with a 4 cyl.unless someone changed it over.the 555c had the 4 cyl and the 455 had the 3 cyl.I used to work at a ford dealer from 85 to 89 and never seen a 555b with a 4 cyl.

555C and 555D are 4 Cyl. Production of the 555C 1983-1988, will have to lookup about the 555D. I don't have a serial # list for Indust. Equipment but would guess with the C in your serial number it is a 555C. Have near all Ford Parts Books but nothing on serial numbers for construction equipment.
