What\'s a decent corn crib worth?

A friend of mine has a corn crib he no longer wants/needs and is going to sell. He has someone interested but doesn't know what it may be worth.

It's a round crib, probably 20' in diameter with caging almost as thick as a pencil.
I think it's about 8-10' tall + the roof (which is galvanized and in good condition).

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks
Brian

Re: What\'s a decent corn crib worth?

Some people like to use them to put split firewood in for containment and for drying.
Not sure I'd like it for that, as it seems the wood would be difficult to remove. However, I do see them used that way.

Probably could give it away for the cost of removal. Unless someone has the three 'lifts' that are used to assemble them, removal can be a real chore. The lift holds the top up while the bottom 'row' or layer is unbolted. Then lowering the upper part will allow the next 'row' to be unbolted, and finally the last row and the canopy.

We have both considered it for firewood but opted for other solutions for several reasons, one of which you mentioned.

I haven't looked at it in a long time but can't it be disassembled from the roof down? Why not just remove the roof then start disassembling the sides from the top on down? If the right size trailer is brought, the walls may be able to be taken out in larger sections. Same for the roof.

Probably could, but go carefully. Removal of anything changes the structure that holds it up. Have lots of help. Someone may have the 'lifts' around to borrow which will make it much easier. Good luck.

Around here they aren't worth anything. If you can get someone to haul it off for free that would be considered money in the bank!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
