/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifAfter looking at several different 10k trailers for my L35 I'm confused on which would be best. One thing I've noticed is that the axle placement on a 18' trailer varies from makers. In order to get proper tong weight I'm sure this makes a difference if you want to front end load this machine to the very front of the bed. I'm thing about a 18' trailer but is this a good choice for a L35 ? Is there any rule of thumb on where the rear wheels should sit in relation the trailers axles ? Should the hoe bucket be lowered to the bed while towing ? Any subjections would be appreciated.
Thank You

I'm also thinking about getting a trailer for my L35. I've been trying to deside between 18' and 20' and if I want to spend the extra for the tilt bed. I've hauled it on a 16' once but that's really is to small. I think if you lower the hoe bucket to the trailer bed you'er going to just use up more trailer space. I just lock up the BH with the pins. As far as front to back loading, I judge by the amount of compression on the trucks rear springs. I don't know if any of this is any help to you.
I recently came across a used 18' tilt that needs some work, and if I can get it at the right price, I might buy it.
Hitek;
Your right on using up more bed by lowering the bucket. It's 18 '4" with the hoe up and 19.6 with the bucket lowered. The operators book recomends lowering the hoe for transport but I too have hauled with it pined in and it did just fine. Check out axel placement on differnt brands and you'll see what I mean. I'm wonering if an 18' trailer will be long enough if I have to play around with placement rather than runing the bucket up to the stop on the front of the trailer.
I use an 18’ for my B-21 and would think that a 20’ would be the smallest I would consider for an L-35. It may not apply to your uses but if you ever need to haul the tractor with a Rotary Mower the mower will add more to the length of the tractor than the backhoe does.
I've got a 20 foot trailer for my L3830 and have been really happy with it.
I tow with the FEL bucket down, and placement is dependant on whether the backhoe is on or off. I look for compression of the tow vehicle to determine placement. For my trailer, the tractor rear wheels are usually over the trailer wheels, or just slightly forward if I have the BH on.
I believe our trailer at work is 18' and with a mower attachment on, it hangs off just a little. Our trailer can haul maximum roughly 10-12,00 lbs supposedly. But a 121-3 maxes out our trailer. We don't have L35's, just B-21's and 27's. It's also a tilt which is really nice. I just eye ball where the tractor goes, I know exactly where the 121 goes, I guess I just don't pay that much attention to where I put the tractors. Generally, if I lower the bucket, it goes just beyond the trailer deck onto the compartment where we store chains and binders.

Attached is a picture of how my 4330 fills up a 20' tilt bed. I had an 18' trailer and some implements would hang over the back end. I have found that if you lower the loader bucket and backhoe bucket down onto the deck of the trailer: you will not get nearly as much bouncing action from the tractor. It makes it easier to control and safer because the chains or straps aren't constantly getting yanked. The tilt is super quick to load and unload and you don't have the safety issue of sliding off of a wet ramp.
