What\'s considered new???

Hi Folks,

I am expecting delivery of a new BX2200 - was supposed to get here mid-week, but not in to the dealers yet. My question is this......what is considered a "new" tractor - hour wise??? Meaning, how many hours should I expect it to have, or not to have, when it is delivered to me? I know this might be a naive question, but I want to know what the standards are for tractors? If they deliver one with 10-15 hours on it, would that be considered "new" ?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks,

Re: What\'s considered new???

Bob, there are some differences of opinion here, I know. I seem to recall someone posting a message and being unhappy because the hour meter showed a few hours (under 10). And I've bought two new tractors that were delivered with less than 2 hours on the meter. However, if it "looks" new and the warranty starts when it's delivered, it just wouldn't be any big deal to me. In fact, I told the dealer that when they got it all set up, I'd be happy for them to put the first few hours on it to see if they could find anything wrong before delivery.

Re: What\'s considered new???

Thanks Bird. I was wondering if it was like buying a car that some people had demoed. I assume the warranty would begin with the number of hours (like the number of miles on a car) when you took over. I wouldn't be thrilled if it had 10 hours on it though. I appreciate your candidness and hope that perhaps others on the list can give the number of hours their machines had on them when they took delivery as "new." I'm bummed because the dealer told me the machine was supposed to be there wednesday and here it is friday and no show.........I'd planned to get some seat time tomorrow........

Thanks,

Re: What\'s considered new???

Mine was delivered (I picked it up) with just about 1 hour on meter. Why would it have 10 hours? to me thats not new it had to be used as a demo or something. not sure how they could have racked up 10 hours from factory to dealer.

Re: What\'s considered new???

Mine was delivered with 5.7 hours on it. I assumed that it was from dealer prep/testing, but probably had some demo time also, now that I think about it. Anyhow, as Bird said, I don't think that is a big deal. I would probably draw the line at around 10 hours OR if I saw visible usage such as dirt/mud on attachements/underside etc. That to me would indicate more than just a spin around the parking lot...........

Re: What\'s considered new???

My dealer mentioned that sometimes the ignition is left on and runs up the hour meter......guess you have to have trust in the dealer. My tractor had in excess of 10 hours but everything on and under the tractor was pristine and had no wear what so ever.....

Re: What\'s considered new???

sandyc,

Good point! Some tractors have electric hour meters that run whenever the key is on. Others have mechanical meters geared to the tachometer, and therefore only advance when the engine is running.

Re: What\'s considered new???

If you are buying one off the lot, as opposed to a new one in the crate, I would expect 2-5 hours, just from folks trying them out on the lot and the prep for delivery. You probably drove it yourself, before you decided to buy it. As mentioned above, however, by the time it gets up to 10 hours or more, someone has probably actually "used" it, rather than just taking a spin around the dealer's lot.

I have seen some posts recommending that the prospective buyer ask a dealer to let them try out the tractor on their property to see if it would do the jobs they had planned. Why would a dealer let someone take a new tractor and turn it into a used tractor and then decide not to buy it??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif (Maybe they meant try out a similar used or rental unit - yeah, that's probably it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)
