Come on down, we will teach you to shoot guns, and be a conservative. There are just some places that are easier to live in than others. Now don't get me wrong, there are plenty of places in our country, and even some in my state that are more like where you live, but I don't live there!

Generally, I like where I live. There's pro's and cons of anywhere you go and being a landlord is one of the cons here, but Canada is a pretty comfy place to be.

he could move to california..and he'd never know he moved haha

With the "extreme" cold warning I'm under right now, don't tempt me!

Well boys, y'all need a preacher. That'd be me. Been doing that for about 40 years, reckon I'll stick to it 'til the end. But, I started out cutting grass with push (push. No engine kind) mower in me neighborhood at 8 years old, $.50-$1.50 or so a yard. Started as substitute paperboy at 11, couldn't wait to turn 12 so I could get me own route! I got two routes at 12, then at 15, got on at service station. Worked pumping gas, changing tires, oil/filter changes, washing, did it all, through high school. THEN. WHAM. The big UMBRELLA hanging over us boys' haids back in those days was - Vietnam. That's all I'll say about that. College, grad school, been preaching ever since.

Who was that brick layer? In Ohio. One skill I wish I had. I've done every building trade except brick laying. Love to watch a good brick layer work!

I ain't afraid of work. I can sit around and watch it all day...

How tenant friendly is The Peoples Republic of Canada? I know many of the more liberal states can be very difficult for the land lord.

In Quebec the laws are mostly in favor of the tenant.

I was seasonal landlord for 12 years having 2 waterfront chalets one hour north of Montreal.

That was the best of two worlds as rental board did not cover seasonal rents so I could demand up front payments as well as a damage deposit.
Fact was that I ended up having same summer tenants repeat year to year and in one case a winter tenant that returned for 7 years. It was almost like they shared the same chalet like like co-owners .

I know guns are a big topic here on TBN and you and I have talked about getting together so you can teach me to shoot. Thought I'd share this story. Doesn't look like I'll need to learn to shoot after all, this one will do it for me! Let's break some stereo types...

Well, I have worked commercial towing vessels and also commercial passenger vessels, and I don't think anyone could pay me enough to get me to work a private yacht. Many many years ago I worked in a country club and the experience of dealing with "rich people" was not enjoyable to me.
I find dealing with "rich people" easy, especially when they are less "rich" than I am.

Sometimes I think I read TBN for a living.
You should include "post on TBN".

Are any of you "data collectors" building a list of occupations from this thread?

An interesting prototype platform, lets see what develops from the R&D. I of course realize Canada has been making arms and ammo for a long time. Including a lot of what we all shot up and dropped as bombs in WWII. Canada sure did its part in helping win the war, and continues to this day in our current conflicts.

DFB, the first year was 1956. The alternative was driving a tractor at 50 cents an hour or picking cotton.....
..

That would have been an enormous amount of money to me. 2nd August 1960 I began work in the local Town Clerk's Dept. I think it was a 38 hour week, which means my annual salary of ï½£240 and 52.2 weeks in a year comes back to ï½£0.12 per hour. Cannot remember exchange rates then, but at the present more or less $1.50/ï½£1 makes it 18 cents an hour. I know it was better, but even at $3/ï½£1 it would still be only 36 cents.

Edit: TBN does not like the sign for Pounds Sterling.Ignore the gobbledegook before the £, including in the edit.

Second edit: No gobbledegook in the first edit.
