Re: What\'s going on in California?

What'ss happening is the left wingers are once again getting what they deserve--the results of their stupidity. No power plants built in the last 10 years to 'save the environment'. Incredible how the vocal few can so negatively influence the whole. At least the Sierra Club will be happy; they would prefer humans disapperaed completely (check it out).

Re: What\'s going on in California?

M. Sullivan and Twinkletoes you hit the nail right on the head. Out west too the damn environmentalists are buying up all these leases that ranchers have had for a 100 years. They are spending outrageous amounts of money to buy the leases when they come due and the rancher who has spent his life counting on that ground to run cattle is ruined. Then the enviromentalist just lets the land sit for no good use at all. What's really sad is that the ranchers have made deserts and barren land into fertile ground and something that you can make something out of. They've drilled wells, controlled runoff, etc and what do they get for a 100 years of hard work, a slap in the face.

Our most abundant resource in this country, coal. You think we can build any coal generators? The most abundant natural gas and oil reserves have now been closed permanently by Clinton in his quest to leave his "legacy".

I agree send these environmentalists out to live on the ground they've leased and have no intention to ever use. Let's see how long they last.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

M.Sullivan,
Allen&Richard I agree,and it doesn't stop there.
Every notice what the groups are wearing when the protest on animal issue...there belts..fur line gloves..and veal on there dinner plates etc..,talk about do as I say not as I do.

I'm willing to bet if there electric company was to shut down do to the power problem, members of there group would be the first to call and complain.
<font color=red>Maybe thats what they need a darn good reality check in there life.<font color=red><font color=black>
Change is good but not to the degree where we can't go back.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Texans have long enjoyed the right of "free capture", In simple terms if one owns land, then he also owns whats under the land. San Antonio and the surrounding area sit on top of one of the largest natural underground aquifers in the world. Because the Edwards Aquifer is so large and in honeycombed limestone, no one is sure of it's exact size.
For the sake of one above ground spring, and a two inch minnow, The Sierra Club brought a law suit that changed long held laws, and will eventually change the "free capture" laws of Texas. Even though it was clearly shown that the spring and fish would be just fine with augmentation.
During dry periods, San Antonians are forced into restrictions and rationing of water. To the point where restaurants are forbidden to give customers a glass of water, unless the customer asks for one. Hell, they have even formed a "water police" to make sure people are following the rules. And right under their feet are billions and billions of gallons of water. It's nuts...... crazy...... P.S. I'm not going to say a word about the judge who ruled in this case, but then I don't think I need to.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Al

I wish california would do something. The problem with the North West saving them is that buy law we have to sell them power. At a time when our reservoirs are very depleted by our own useage we must spill more water for hydro power, water we don't have, to supply Califonia with power which has driven our power rates sky high. Our power source (water)is a renewable resource, but the rate that it is being used far out reaches the rate that it can be renewed. If you traval though the mountains you will see the reservoirs are very, very low and they are still putting out max power, creating a crises for us in the North West. If we don't get some real snow pack before long, come summer we won't have a drop of water any where in WA. State. We will have California to thank for that. Yes, I'm a little bitter about all of this. Looks like we may have to fire up (what is the name of that nuclear power plant, W-S) just to supply California.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone from California, I just wish California would fix their problem before WA. State goes down with them.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Jerry,
You are absolutely right! My family is in the same situation in Idaho. Every year it's a crisis whether or not they are going to get irrigation water because of water having to go to california. Idaho has been in one lawsuit after another with california. I don't have anything against the people down there, there are good people there. The problem is that they have to start fixing their own problems instead of relying on all the states around them to fix the problems. So many laws are passed in CA regulating this and that for power and water that they are left with nothing. Now they go and make it Idaho, Washington, Oregon, etc. problem. That's what's wrong with it. It's a few making a problem for the many. It's really too bad and I don't know what the answer is, I just know it isn't right to make the other states pay for their problems.
I'd like to hear what the guys from california think about all of it. Would be nice to hear perspective from the other side of the fence.

I recently drove by Alder Lake and Lake Keeclesus (yea thats misspelled big time) They have been renamed Alder creek and Kechellus(maybe closer) Creek.

My first backhoe project was a concrete dam across my creek
complete with waterwheel. Not a drop has come over the dam. Normally it fills 1/2 of and 18" culvert from early November till late June. My other ponds don't have enough water to overflow the standpipe, normal is 6" under the water.

This is begining to smell like the gasoline shortage in the early 70's. Prices for the little guy going thru the roof followed by claims of the big outfits losing money. The only part you know for sure is the little guy (WA and CA) is getting shafted.

Root cause seems to be deregulation, followed by corporate greed. How's your Tractor Jerry?

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Twinkle_Toes would you happen to have any of your pics of that dam with water wheel. I have contemplated doing something similar and am very curious to the details.
