Okay, the cylinder extends or contracts, the shaft revolves to some extent, and in turn it lifts the lower arms.. right? So the rockshaft is really the bar which connects the two lower arms? It just rocks back and forth, rather than making at least one full revolution. Gotcha!

I'm a bit surprised that nobody mentioned water/moisture. I live in snow country, and condensation from getting the hydraulics hot in cold weather adds up, so I change my THF every Spring.

Then there's draft control. My IH2500b has it. If you have an implement in the ground, say a 1 bottom plow, as you drive forward it pulls the implement through the dirt. If you run into extremely tough soil, the tires start to spin and the back of the tractor starts to sink. The draft control senses the change in angle between the tractor and implement at the rock shaft and raises the implement out of the soil until the angle returns back to the set point. As the tractor picks up speed, the rock shaft lowers the implement back into the soil to the pre set depth. This helps you from getting stuck and helps maintain ground speed. It is common on large ag tractors.
