How big of a labor force do you have?

I take whatever free labor that I can get. Right now it is my wife, brother, sister and myself. The Kubota has over 200 hours on it already this year with over 20 each on the New Holland and Cub. The smaller two tractors will see more time later, one with the potato digger and the Cub will see more time once the the rows fill in and there is less room to till.

I've got a 28 by 40 foot plot, so far there has been several harvests of asparagus, the 25 tomato plants are almost waist high, and one or two of the 30 cabbage heads are almost ready to pick. Let's see now, have about 25 pepper plants, red. yellow, and green varieties....a dozen lettuce heads, 200-plus onion sets, a few zookini (my spelling) and butternut squash, and a few watermelon. Last year the squash practically overtook the garden, we had close to 100 of them, but this year is very bad for squash and melons.

There has been a lot of rainfall and sunshine which should help everything grow and the weeds as usual are a banner crop. Using the black landscaping weed barrier fabric around the plants really cuts down on the amount of weeding required. I have more than half of the plot unused this year because I've got too many other priorities to work on instead.

We have beautiful, large onions hanging everywhere. The radishes got away from us, bush beans made about 5 meals. We are now getting bushels of jalepenos, bell peppers, tomatoes, squash, cantelope, cucumbers, and okra.

Water melons are not doing well.

Had 6 20-foot rows of sweet corn, but the ants and worms got most of it. What we did eat was very tasty.
