What's in your toolbox?

Re: What\'s in your toolbox?

Oh, the gun, well it is always in the truck but while at remote property and while tractoring it can be used to dispatch wounded critters (imagine brush hogging a fox or fawn), or if I see a cougar. Then there is the security aspect if I ever happen upon trespassers. I had a coyote trot right past me about 30 feet away when I was chainsawing last weekend, healthy dog and nice to see, I wouldn't shoot him but if it was a cougar, well, I'd have to dig a deep hole.

In the truck I also have found the roll of electrical tape very handy. I have started bringing a come-a-long with me in the truck just in case I get stuck in the mud.

Fire extinguisher, always in the truck along with jumper cables to start the truck or the tractor if needed.

When I think about it, I'm kind of a dork. I also have rain gear, one of those folding army shovels, a hatchet, a big maglite and a deer spotlight (those pistol grip type). A lighter even though I don't smoke, and now one of those cool clip onto your hat LED headlamps for nighttime light.

THE big one!!!!!! A roll of toilet paper in a zip lok bag.

Re: What\'s in your toolbox?

A few months ago I mounted a waterproof aluminum toolbox that was my dad's on the tractor. I made a few guesses as to what I would need in it, such as an adjustable wrench and a hammer. My plan was to leave each new tool I needed in the box. Luckily I haven't added many tools since I mounted it, but I have put a few odd lengths of chain in the box with hooks on the ends. I use them on the FEL for various lifting projects.

By the way, every time I look at that box, it reminds me of my dad. Funny how such simple things can bring us so much comfort.

Re: What\'s in your toolbox?

G'day,

The little toolbox on my dad's new Kioti DK50 is a little small and a bit of a disappoinment, so he replaced it with a strong custom-made weatherproof aluminium toolbox which houses all his emergency gear.

2 x Shifting Spanners
Screwdriver set
Flashlight
Various pins and spare link pins
Swiss army Knife
Rope
Small chain and spare chain links
WD 40 Spray can
Set of Metric spanners
Fencing Pliers
Multi Grips
Small Hammer
Emergency Safety First Aid Box (important)
plus a few other necessary items

We also have one of those large magnetic drink holders for the cups, drinks, water bottles and mobile phone.

Another important thing is that we have Ear Muffs and tough Eye Protection Glasses on each tractor for each operator. You can see the glasses on a pic of me somewhere on a link. Big Yellow lensed things.

We are not that much different to the farmers in the USA, but I have noticed that many guys whom post in these forums, on smaller acreages, have over-kill on the size on their tractors...
.... what do they say about some guys?.. BIG tractor, Little ?? ha ha

Re: What\'s in your toolbox?

Man, I feel like I shouldn't even bother posting this. Maybe it's a reflection of the tool box size (tiny), tractor size (ditto), tractor reliability ( extremely high, never broke yet), or that I don't get very far from the shop when running around in the woods here. All I carry is the "scrench" for my Stihl chainsaw. If I need anything bigger, it goes in the bucket.

Re: What\'s in your toolbox?

How could I forget my "Macgyver Knife" (Swiss Army Knife)!?! I've got to add one to my toolbox now.

Also, the first aid kit is also important. I'll probably throw one in along with some Tecnu cream in case I get into some poison ivy.

Re: What\'s in your toolbox?

A dozen linch pins, 2 hitch pins, a small roll of baling wire, fence pliers, a cresent wrench, a rag, phillips and straight screwdrivers, a small roll of duct tape, a small first aid kit, and about 2 pounds of dirt.

Re: What\'s in your toolbox?

G'day RobT & FarmwithJunk (Kewl name)

Later I will take some pictures of the new tool box and also the easy way we have mounted the Safety First Aid Box at the rear of the driver's seat. It's a really simple idea, and even someone enterprising could make them up and sell them as a kit. To send them from here in Australia to the USA might be a little too expensive, but I might look into it for fun.
