At that price they're all going to be about the same. I'm a pretty big fan of my streamlights but there're not $25. I also prefer rechargeable lights. I use flashlights quite a bit and it makes more sense than keeping a pile of battery's.

No one has mentioned headlamps. I use them all the time at camp, I have half a dozen cheap led ones I let crew use and I keep my black diamond or my nite brite for myself. Beats the heII out of holding them in your teeth for hours on end.

And they're always pointed where you look. It's tough finding them without 50 different modes on them. Give me one thats on/off. I don't need blink-blink red,flash,hi,low,mid.

So, what if I opened up the price restrictions a little? What's the best flashlight for the money? I'm wondering if a $30 or $40 flashlight might be enough better to justify cheating the price cap a little. Plus, with black Friday coming up and the occasional availability of coupons, etc. I might be able to fudge the price down to where it counts.

Curious, if any living soul has ever used the red flashing feature on an LED flashlight to summon help?

I'm guessing that the bright White light would attract attention better anyway. So as it is, I have LED lights that I have to push six times to get them to turn off. I will probably only press it fives times by accident and the thing will be dead when I need it.

I got one of these for a gift. It is really handy for working on equipment in the dark, or in a dark spot inside equipment. It's not what you'd use on a mountain trek, more of an area light, but if he owns a truck shop it might be right up his alley.

Lots of good flashlights named during this discussion. I'm not familiar with many of them but just had my wife accidentally run my Mini MagLight through the washing machine still in my pants pocket. It still works great but has lost a lot of its "character". (dirt) The light & the pants not the washer.
Having seen lots of suggestions for rechargeable lights made me wonder if he doesn't already have a light he likes, and you could be the guy to go with good rechargeable lithium ion batteries and a charger for them that fit his light? Lots of people have commented about dead batteries.
