Tiller What's the best PTO rotary tiller?

Have had a King Kutter II 72" for 4-5 years now. I like the fact that it is gear drive not chain - I think that design is sturdier. Also has slip clutch not shear bolt - another plus.

When I first got it I vibrated a couple bolts out of the drive case (there's about a dozen or so holding the cover on). Found them and put them back in and it happened again. Drained the case, got rid of their crappy gasket and replaced with a good bead of RTV seal then put locktite on the bolts and added locking washers for good measure. I did this about 2 weeks after I got it and it hasn't had any issues like that ever again. Something to keep an eye on.....probably on any model you buy

Just this year I cracked/blew out one yoke on the pto shaft and snapped a lower arm pin on it....hey, I'm tough on equipment. I also had to do a set of friction disks in the PTO shaft while I had it apart since they were pretty worn down

Overall it's definitely money well spent

I recently rented a Bush Hog brand 72" tiller and was not impressed. It bounced over the ground and shook the tractor like a vibrating lounge. Granted it was a rental unit and the tines were pretty worn, but it was a chore to use.

I recently bought a King Kutter 72" unit and it is night and day above the Bush Hog unit. It's quiet, doesn't vibrate and cuts the ground much faster. Plus I found it on EBay for $1200.00 from a dealer not too far from home.:)

NO comment on which might be best since I have only ever used the Landpride tiller I have now. I bought it used, and by appearances it was well used, all I did to it was put on new tines and a new seal on the chain case. Since then I have used it for cutting sod, tilling gardens and breaking ground so I could scoop it up with the FEL. No issues at all. Good solid unit.

I dont own one myself, but have used a friends landpride. Like most landpride equipment, it was built like a tank and worked well.

I have a 81" Buhler. Did about 4 acres with it, twice. No problems in rocky soil.
It is heavy, about 900lb, goes about 6-8" down.

I have woods. I don't know which is best, but it isn't woods. Their equipment is usually great, but this is rebadged italian junk at woods prices.

From what people say on here, I wish I'd known about the king kutter.

Don't buy a bulldozer unless you really really need it and then lease it instead.
Never buy a dump truck period. Take a nice vacation and clear your head instead.:D
