Whats the best sack concrete to use for remote post holes

Usually I use two 80-pounders of QuikRete available at Home Depot for every post I set. Lol.

No reason to overthink this. I buy the smallest sacks available. 40 pounds is my favorite, but sometimes they only have 50 or 60 pound sacks. Price per pound is the same, so make it easy and go small.

Putting it in dry works fine, but there is a measurable increase in strength if you mix it with water before pouring it into the hole.

What's more important is that the concrete comes up out of the hole, so it's higher then the surround soil, so water will never pool around the base of the post.

If you want the pole to last I wouldn't use anything that holds the moisture around the pole. What I do is the same as the power companies do. I just pour a coarse gravel (3/4" crush) around the post and enjoy the lifetime of a post that is self tightening. As the post gets moved the gravel settles around the post and tightens it up immediately. Any water that finds it's way around the post is also free to drain away. Hmmm I don't have to wait for the concrete to set either.

What he said.

Hum-m-m-m.......Think I'll go with just gravel tamped in....again. Maybe the earth washed up around the base of the previous posts. Besides, at my age, it won't have to last all that long anyway.

Cheers,
Mike

Whatever the lumber yard has. It doesn’t need anything special. You can buy the bags and dry set them- no water needed. They will set just fine.

What he said. The concrete will set from ground moisture over time. I set my gate posts with dry mix and they haven't budged.

I've always just used a gravel mix of (think it's) Quikcrete. Just pour it around the post and then put some water in. Let sit.
