Re: what\'s the best wax or polish
For plastic parts, I recommend using a polish specific for plastics. The color of plastic parts, like tractor hoods and fenders, is an integral part of the plastic material. This is just like the plastic of motorcycle fairings. In contrast, auto bodies (metal ones) are painted, and the polishes, waxes and polymeric products all try to interact with the paint film.
One of the best products to maintain a new plastic finish is HONDA Spray Cleaner and Polish
{HERE} . It is designed for plastic motorcycle fairings, and will do a fantastic job on your new tractor plastic. As mentioned earlier in this thread, UV protection is good, and this product has it. It is pretty economical, too at $5-7 for an aerosol can at most motorcycle shops.
As time goes by, your plastic may get light scratches or worse. Again, a plastic-specific product is best to try to "erase" the scratches and bring back a shine. I have used the Novus line of plastic polishes, glazes and scratch removers for years, and I am always amazed at what they can achieve. A description of the products is
{HERE} My latest project was an acrylic windshield on a semi-vintage motorcycle. I thought for sure I would be looking at a replacement shield. However, with a little time and progressing from coarse scratch remover to polish, the windshield looks fantastic.
BTW, I have no commercial interest in any of these products. I'm just a 'nut" when it comes to restoring and maintaining finishes on cars, motorcycles, even furniture and leather.
