Define "best".

I've owned both. (1 Ramsey, 3 Warn's) No problems with either. Both have features, and come with various mounting accessories that make each favorable in different applications.

All in all, I liked the Warn Winch more, and was able to buy them at a better price. More options were available as to the mounting kits for the particular applications I intended at the time.

So, in that regard, Warn was the BEST FOR ME in those cases.

I have always had Warns (3 total) and they worked great and never broken. Now I recently got a Mile Marker and it works great and was FAR less $$$$. I would buy either one again. If Warn was not so $$ I would have bought another one - seems they they are starting to charge too much for their good name IMO.

What size are you looking at and what are you going to put it on? What uses do you have for it?

I too have both Ramsey and Warn and I would say that I actually prefer the Ramsey. They share universal mounting and (now) both come with roller fairleads.

My preference for Ramsey is due to the lower current draw on the ele. system and it has a wireless remote. I found the wireless to be very valuable for some winch applications in that when pulling things to the machine, I can be closer to what I'm pulling (logs and such) which is handy.

For both, if you want a mechanical brake, you'll pay more or buy a conversion kit. Without the mechanical brake, if under a load, it'll slowly let the cable out.
