I have a Husqvarna 2354 and like it ... But I do not consider any garden tractor with a ½" drive belt to be a beast. It's the weak link in the Husqvarna line.

I've seen the transmissions internals as being the weakest link. I live on a steep slope and the drive belts on my garden tractors haven't been an issue even once in 29 years here. While I'd agree that a shaft drive is far less likely to be an issue, I feel that if you swap your drive and deck every 400 hours or so you'll likely never see a belt failure.... It you've got something else going on that let the belt see reduced tension that smoked it.

I don't have 400 hours on the machine yet and have changed the drive belt twice just due to slippage. It's one of seven tractors I've accumulated over thirty years and even the cheaper MTD Yardman machines have 5/8" drive belts. The Husqvarna is my favorite machine while the wife enjoys zooming around on the Ferris ZTR ...... I just would prefer they had engineered it with a more substantial belt.

That's interesting. I mow my yard, pull a roller, pull a broadcast spreader, pull a plug aerator and a 25 gallon sprayer here and I've not seen issues. I guess I'm lucky with respect to the belt drives. 20190324_135606.jpeg

Depending on the transmission I would have to disagree. With a K46 trans, I would rather have a smaller belt so the machine burns the belt up before the transmission.

K66 trans would be better being shaft driven since it’s less likely to fail.

I did this dance owning 2 different Craftsman (2011?) GT6000s (first one fell apart so many times they finally agreed to replace it), a cub cadet (model number escapes me, similar size though), then dumped the last for a used JD 455 I found on CL. I spent $1000 less on the used 455, have a K92 rear end (about the toughest you will find), a diesel engine, shaft driven, diff lock, all wheel steer, and a 60" deck. I can't begin to explain the difference/joy nor can I tell you how many times I've kicked myself over the money I dumped into those other machines.

I know this isn't what you asked, honestly I know very little about the current Husq lineup. Just thought I'd offer the advice I was given and wish I would have taken much earlier.

LOL.... I know that JD owns the higher end of garden tractors.... but I am severely allergic to green paint!

I've gone through two mowing seasons with the GT48DXLS now. ( https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums...gt48dxls-owner-thanks.html?highlight=GT48DXLS ) It continues to run like new. It will climb hills with the front wheels in the air - and goes places I'd never anticipated. I bought the plug and pulled the chute, so it's in mulching mode all the time. I have managed to get it stuck once - headed uphill and found a patch of soft loose stuff. It's done everything I've asked - well worth the money.

I added 50 lb wheel weights and chains to it... Now the Husqvarna TS354XD is beast mode!20190407_131937.jpg20190407_131918.jpg
