Can you heat that stuff and un-spring it?
I'd like to flaten out a lock washer and make a spacer out of it.

You sure can.;)

The trick is putting the spring back in it!

So I'll heat it up, whack it flat, and then braze it I guess?

You get it red hot, and you can kiss the spring good by. ;)

And you can find out that it's spring steel by ruining a drill bit on it first! Then heat it up like Shield Arc said and let it cool down - no more spring! New drill bit will now work... DAMHIKT

sounds like a lot of trouble to make a flatwasher:D

It's more of a spacer for a spindle bolt. f/w too wide and not thick enough. The f/w that came with it is dragging on the grease seal, this ought to keep it away from it.
..but I hear ya..

Too keep most of the spring strength, visegrip the opening flat and heat the other parts of the ring with a propane torch. Shine up the metal a bit first. When it colors dark blue/purple stop heating. Release after cooling. Should be near flat.

what about taking a zipcut to the appropriate size piece of pipe? then you can get exactly the height you want.

Yeah, I thought of that too. It's becoming a moot point because with the spacers in, somethings still dragging on the other side of the bearings now. Chinese crap, nothing like having to re-work brand new stuff.
