What\'s the Knob For?

I have a YM2000 and there is a round knob directly under the seat. It seems to have something to do with the hydraulics. I have no idea what it does. It is pretty obvious that the previos owner never used this knob for anything because it is impossible to turn.
Any ideas what this knob does??? Thanks

Re: What\'s the Knob For?

Hi scesnick, does it look something like the attached picture? I think the knob is to lock the 3PH in th up position. Turn CCW to unlock. My 2210 (picture attached) has one, but I have never needed to use it. The other lever is to adjust the fall rate of the 3PH.

Not sure which picture to look at. I did see a large green knob on one of the pics but it looked like it was hooked to the tiller.

I've never messed with mine but I have read other posts that indicate that turning it clockwise will lock the 3PH. Not sure why (or when) that would come in handy /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif but now you know what it does /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Very handy when operating your tractor and implement while driving on roads. Implement will stay in place even if you accidently bump your draft control. It is also an excellent deterent for a theif who may attempt to steal your tractor or implement...If it's locked down NOTHING will move - even hot wired tractors pretty much stay put.

Re: What\'s the Knob For?

My manual says to use that knob wheneve you work on your implement. Though I wouldnt trust it completely by getting under an implement anyhow, its a good saftey feature(in theory).

Now the rest of my story....

When I bought my YM2000, I accidently left the cutter on the tractor and in the up possition for about a week. It held, no big deal, but I was impressed that it held.

I turned the knob to lock the hitch in the up possition to get some trash out from under the cuttuer one day. It didnt work, and the hich has never held since. I took the tractor back for its service and to repair a couple of issues while it was under warranty, and asked them to fix it as well. Still wont hold overnight. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif They tell me this is normal. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I do have it from a very good source that durring the colder seasons, the seals may allow internal leakage so the hitch may not hold, so I'm waiting a bit before tearing into it, but not holding my breath.

Not sure what this knob has to do with causing my leak, or even that you will have the same issue. I just figured I'd let you in on my story, so if you have a concern you wont be surprised /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Re: What\'s the Knob For?

The knob may be turned a little to slow down movement of the the three point if you want to do fine adjustment without it hoping around. It may also be tightened to keep the implement fixed in position.

Some leak down is normal. I would expect leakdown over night.
