Re: What\'s the real difference between styles of ATV

If you would like (I am not trying to sell something on this forum) I know someone local to us both who is reputable and has a used 6x4 Gator with gas engine. I have not seen it, and apparently is well-used but also well maintained and has some additional features. He is asking about $3500.00 for it, I think. My opinion is that machine is more than enough for your purpose and would be easy to drive and has a lot more use in it. You could find something like it used and upgrade later if your needs dictated it. If you wish to PM me I can give you more information.

That simply is not true. I've owned 3 Gators one RTV and one Rhino. I promise you that if you put the same amount of power in a Gator as what is in a Rhino you'd destroy it. The website you have visited where they talk about the frames cracking on the Rhinos also talk about who has gotten the most air with their Rhino. You take 1500 pounds (Rhino and passengers) and launch it 5 feet in the air, I guarantee you the landing will not be pleasant; nor was it ever designed to use for jumping. If you push anything way beyond it's designed limits, you will break things. The Gator and RTV are both wider than the Rhino, but they will not go on many trails that I can take the Rhino on. Also, if you could get your Gator to run 60 mph and make a sudden cut with it, don't fool yourself into thinking that it cannot turn over. There simply is no direct comparison between a Gator and a Rhino. The Gators and RTV's are made for working but are also fun. The Rhino is made for fun but can also do quite a bit of work. They just are not the same. However, your statement that makes it sound like the Rhino's break easily and flip easily is just plain misleading.

Re: What\'s the real difference between styles of ATV

I totally agree. I have an 05 rhino and this is the common misconception especially by non- rhino owners who have never REALLY rode a rhino, ( a parking lot test drive does not count )
I feel that they are extremely stable. I have taken my rhino on the exact same off camber trails that all the atv in my area ride on without any problems at all. I have jumped and even rolled my rhino ( 2 rolls actually ) and the frame is just fine and even the roll bar is just fine and only scratched.
Check out www.utilityoffroad.com It is a great RUV site.

I will also say this, If a person would punish a Gator the way I punish my Rhino it would last just a few days for sure. Although a Gator is a fine machine for what it is intended to do. I also agree that any of these machines will roll given the right conditions .
The Rhino is engineered for riding and riding HARD. That is why turf tires are not an option offered by Yamaha.

Re: What\'s the real difference between styles of ATV

the rhino can't take nearly as much punishment as the gator. the rhino has a tin foil frame and the rhino does roll over easy because of the narrow body and the height of it.i seen them roll on inclines and the sales person at my local atv shop was on crutches i saked him if he had wrecked his atv he said no i rolled my rhino.why do you think people who own rhino's are putting wheel spacers on them so they are a little wider???you sauid it yourself you rolled your twice already.now many rangers or hpx's have rolled no hpx's and i haven't heard of any rangers yet. before i got my hpx i was lookin at the rhino's but everyone i talked to that had one had rolled thiers and they told me to stay away from them because of my neck problems. but hey if your healthy and in good shape and like to live on the wild side go ahead and get a rhino .it will roll on we even tried picken my buddies one up from the side just to see and it didn't take to much of an agle before it rolled. now we didn't let it roll all the way over on it's side because we stopped it. but if you ride on any kind of incline watch out she gonna roll and it's even worst with a load in the bed.but to some rollin thier atvs is fun. but like the sales person told me he wished he had some of them half doors to keep his leg inside the rhino when it did roll.

You know, I have owned Gators as I said. Why you keep putting out statements that are simply false rather confuses me. Apparently you personally don't like the Yamaha Rhino for whatever reason, but you are not helping your credibility by posting statements that most everyone will recognize as incorrect.

Since I really like the HPX Gators, I was really hard pressed to chose the Kubota RTV over the Gator this last time. However, the RTV does have a stronger frame, power steering, and is not driven by a belt like a ATV. You seem so concerned about a belt being enclosed, I can't believe you are not concerned about the strength of a belt for 100% of the vehicle's power to the wheels as compared to a steel drive shaft like used in the RTV's. I think the HPX looks 10X better than the RTV, but after driving both and actually having both sitting side by side on my property, I had to go with the RTV for the actual heavy use I have to do right now. I may buy a diesel HPX later this year because they are very nice units and I think are undoubtedly tops in looks as far as I'm concerned. However, as much as I like the Gators, I still have to point out that you are, well, just flat wrong on Rhinos. Somebody has pumped you full of BS. You can talk about all of the great things on the HPX and I won't disagree with any because I've checked them out completely and really like them, but don't stick your foot in your mouth by making silly statements that are false about the Rhino.
