Re: What\'s the real difference between styles of ATV

i got my odessey around 83 or something. i got it the same year the 250r three wheeler came out. it was a choice of the 250r or the odessey and i got the odessey. we later traded it in for the 350 4x4 i think it was a fourtrax . that feels like a houndred years ago /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. they ended up putin the same engine on the 350 three wheeler man now that thing would move.after the 3504x4 i got out of the four wheelin and got into dirt bikes. the bigest one i had was my 1980 rm 400. just the pop of the engine would throw dirt up from the back tire. i had to stand on a 5 gallon bucket to start it. i ain't that big of a guy.that was the first bike to kick me off when i tried startin it it would build up some serious back pressure.

I'd look into an old VW dune buggy or something similar. You could several of them with your budget.

Re: What\'s the real difference between styles of ATV

We have heard a ton of various opinions on my question. That is the beauty of a forum. You get to see lots of sides to a story. Thanks to all of your replies, my decision is done. I will get my wife a JD HPX4x4 this summer. After hearing some Rhino owners talking about rolling their Rhinos with ambivalence, that thoroughly convinced me to go with the JD over anything else. A low center of gravity and wide stance is critical. 40 MPH or the ability to go through 20" deep mud is not important. I get queasy thinking about my wife and my granddaughter rolling a UTV as part of their daily trip to the mailbox at the end of the road. Don't get me wrong...Rhinos and other high speed narrow track brands have their place for active aggressive riding. However, that is not the intended mission for me. 35 years ago I did the aggressive riding thing with 3 cylinder 2 stroke Kawasaki motorcyles. Scraping footpegs leaned over at 45 degrees is way cool when you are young. If I were 35 years younger I would buy a Rhino in a heartbeat and try to make it even faster. But then again, I would probably be riding it alone, not with a 3 year old granddaughter. Thanks to everyone who has replied to this post and one other I did about UTV's.

Re: What\'s the real difference between styles of ATV

i glad to hear you made up your mind.but not to open a can of worms but did you look into the ranger?the ranger is wider than thr hpx.and has seating for three. but it does go faster then the hpx it also has the safe key option to one key is for speed and the other key limit"s it to 25mph. now the hpx is a good choice but the rnger ain't that bad iether. the only bad thing about the ranger is the cost of it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifa nd the frame doesn't lok as strong as the hpx. hey check out these golf carts http://www.cartwheelin.info/index.html them things are fast man they have avideo of them racin and they have some cool pics too!

Hey Gordon - Those were some fast bikes /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif- not the best handling bikes, but very quick and light. I grew up in the area (Edneyville) you are in and loved (still do) two wheelin the curves up hwy 64. Good thing I didn't have the money back then for a fast bike like the 3 cyl Kawis/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Good Luck w/your new UTV and congrats on your place in Lake Lure - a very beautiful area indeed.

Are you on Bald Mountain?
