Re: What\'s the right attachment

PaulieD,

If the Hoedad is appropriate for the trees, I wouldn't spend most of my implement budget on a post hole digger if you only have a one-time fence project. They dig so well that you could rent one and have all the holes done quickly. Besides, I bought one for a couple of jobs and have been tripping over it for 4 years. They don't store well.

If you agree, now we have $600 to spend for you. This board loves to spend other peoples money. I'd recommend a box blade. It would also help with driveway maintenance if you have one.

Re: What\'s the right attachment

Garey, thanks for the very understandable, detailed instructions. It does sound a bit complicated, but I suspect it's a matter of learning the routine and sticking to it. I'm going to order a straight blade today. My seedlings are supposed to arrive in a couple of weeks. Thanks again, Paul

Re: What\'s the right attachment

John, a couple of the guys at work have been counseling me to invest in a box blade. They both agree that it is a versatile tool that can be used for variety of jobs. These guys are also the ones that told me that once I got the tractor and FEL, the selection and purchase of implements would be a continuous exercise. They appear to be right on that score. Thanks for the help, Paul

Re: What\'s the right attachment

Paul, you're welcome...glad to help.

Be sure to keep the roots moist on those seedlings...leave them in the sack if you can't get to them for a couple of days...if they come with "frog egg looking stuff" on the roots, try not to wash them off...they will help hold moisture on the roots after you plant them.

You can use a 5 gallon bucket with a couple inches of water in the bottom as a planting container.

Re: What\'s the right attachment

Garey,

Thanks for the tip on the hoedad and the instructions. A posthole digger would have been overkill. I put 50 frazier fir replants, 50 blue spruce seedlings and 50 white spruce seedlings in a few weeks ago and the fraziers and the white spruce are already showing signs of new growth. It took a while to get the routine and rhythm down, but toward the end we were moving along fairly well.

Now I still have a few bucks left for that box blade John suggested.

Thanks again,

Paul
