Re: what\'s the steepest incline you have climbed
Dargo,
Great pic, would love to see how they got that out.
Let me say there was a picture of the event described below, but, I lost it when I moved from home when it and some other items blew out of the truck - /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif - hate I lost it, was a really cool picture.
Never had and ATV, but loved my dirt bikes and motocross (MX) bikes. My buddies, we were all around 20 years old and indestructible, use to like to hill climb on our bikes. I was never into hill/thrill climbing, preferred to catch air off of jumps, but, peer pressure propelled me up many a hill.
There was one, rather nasty hill, they use to climb that I would have no part of. It was in an old open spar mine. This thing was about 30’ tall and the last half of it looked straight up except for one little gully about a foot wide that you had to ride up. Finally, one day after suffering much verbal abuse and questioning of my manhood I gave it a shot.
Made it to the top on the first attempt, but, was going WAY too fast (on my Kawasaki KX500), couldn’t control the bike and missed the gully. The bike literally shot straight up in the air. A girlfriend of one the guys was at the top taking pics of guys coming up. She snapped the coolest picture, even though it was the worst wreck I ever had. In the picture, you saw the underside of the bike, my legs spread eagle and hands on the handlebar – couldn’t see me. Looked like I was riding a totally vertical wheelie, except there is no ground under me – was a totally cool picture /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif However, the aftermath was not.
The bike leapt about 2 feet in the air, on the way back down, I think it clipped the top of the bank on the underside sending both it and me rolling backwards. Fortunately I was able to separate from the bike, but, as we both slid back down the bank it hit me on the head – the helmet - and rolled over me. Amazingly, I had just a few scratches (we wore full MX body armor) and some shook up buddies. They thought I was dead when the bike hit me in the head. The bike didn’t fare as well. The handlebars were bent/twisted, busted radiator covers and fenders and a big dent in the “throat” on the exhaust pipe.
The hill climbing slowed down after that for about a week or two. After fixing my bike I did go back and successfully make it up – my first and only successful climb of that hill.
