I'm no expert at this.. but I'll try. I would think a person to person sale would bring between 11K-13K. I would imagine a trade in would bring a couple thousand less.

barticus, There used to be a site, machinerylink.com that gave an average value but they have reworked their site and the free option doesn't appear available anymore. It was just like a Kelly Blue Book for vehicles. DmansPadge 'probably' gave you a fair place to start but as you know regional prices, etc all dictate. If it was on a Dealers Lot they would get a premium price for a used, clean tractor. I believe your tractor is a 2 wheel drive, (I have a 7234), and for a compact that would probably be the biggest negative unless the buyer didn't need the extra capabilites of a 4WD. I'd definitely start in the $11-13 range, the less you ask obviously the faster it will sell.

There are some tractor, "Blue Books," available, but I have found the better source for going rates to be what the machines fetch on E-Bay. You can use the completed listings page and current pages for individiual tractors to see what they sell for in general, and as sale locations are given it gives a bit of a regional factor too. The exact model of what you have to sell might not always be present, but if you look up something similar you'll get an idea of a range to sell at. Look at tractors that actually SOLD, not ones that did not meet a price reserve as most often those reserve prices were too high. Of course condition means everything, and that carries the biggest factor in tractor resale value.

How do you search for items that have sold already. That sounds like a great feature to use but I can't seem to find how to do it.

After you type in what you are looking for and view the current auctions, next to the "Search" button there is small type that says, "Advanced Search." Once you hit this another page comes up and you check the box a few lines down labeled, "Completed listings only." It brings up all finished auctions for that item within the last few months.

I have a 2005 edition of the Tractor Blue Book. A 1997 7272 2 wd:

Low trade: $4820
High trade: $6130
Low retail $8610
High retail $9490

Obviously these prices are without loader.

Wow! I never would have guessed that a 2WD would book for Low retail $8610 and High retail $9490. Do they list the value for a 1996, 7234, (4WD Gear) w/FEL? Thanks.

$8210 and $9060. I don't see any reference to FEL pricing in this book.

Don't take these numbers to be the gospel. The book says that the numbers can vary by condition of the tractor and by popularity of a brand in various areas.
