Hi Rich,

Thanks for the tightening tip on the HST filter. I did not know that. Also, to be sure...on your 4240 did they change the hydro oil also...or just put on new filters at 50 hours? My hydro fluid looks really clean, (clear, no discoloration at all), and was wondering about that...(save a few dollars if it is not needed). At one Kubota dealer, they said they don't change the fluid at 50 hours, just filters.

What's your opinions? DieselPower can you also comment, (I respect your opinion).

change it!

Book says change only filter, so I changed only the filter (and added a little fluid).

On my tractor the manual says to change fluid and filters.

My first trans fluid change is called for at 400 hours. Different machines with different service intervals.

Not correct.

The HST filter is special. It filters all of the fluid from the pre-charge pump at 2-300 psi. You want the HST to last a long time, so it gets filtered well. That filter is also EXPENSIVE as it has to filter the higher pressures. It is also on at least the 3rd generation of filter due to them leaking on cold temperature start ups. (Wisconsin cold, -20F or so)

The hydraulic fluid filter is a low pressure filter that is on the suction side of the hydraulic pump. It filters the fluid for the loader, 3pt and any hydraulic power implements.

There are two filters on the M6800s and both are identical filters.

At 50 you are (theoretically) removing the first large amount of break-in/burnishing particles. Yes, the filters are supposed to catch all of that.
Supposed to. What's the cost of fluid v. the cost of the equipment?

Change it.

Re. the filters, John Bud has it. HST is the high pressure side, Hydo filter is the suction (low pressure) side. You will probably need oil filter "pliers" (not a regular of wrench) and a cheater pipe to get the HST filter off.
