What's up with the smoke?

I wonder if perhaps the heating element is bad or the connection to it is bad, or it's not working for some other reason. The "glow plug" light does seem to come on for a shorter period when the engine is warm but I don't know if it's just going off engine temp, ambient temp, or actually measuring the intake air temp. If it's the first two then it'd never notice that the heater wasn't heating; if it uses the last one it would and the indicator wouldn't turn off.

On my 2400 sometimes I forget to wait for it when starting a warm engine. It will come on anyway and extinguish later; I don't time it nor pay it any attention. My 2400 with about 150 hours will smoke on a cold day for a second or two depending on how cold it is and how long since last operated (days). On my 6530, it doesn't come on above a certain temp, don't know what that is but say 40F or below for a number. On cold turn ons with it, it doesn't smoke. It's direct injected, the 2400 is swirl chamber; both are Cummins licensed products. The direct injected gets fuel squirted in the combustion chamber. The swirl chamber ignites in a little side pocket and that explosion goes through a port to the main combustion chamber to ignite it.

Have you checked the coolant level? You could have a leaking head gasket.

Coolant level hasn't moved. the dealer is picking it up today to take a look. The past couple days I just started it once a day to run it a little without working it and now its smoking every day at start up.

Keep us posted. It sounds to me that your not getting it good and hot and probably live in a fairly high humidity area. I'll bet it's strictly moisture getting burned off. Need to get that engine reved up to make sure it gets burned off. I've seen it before on all of them and that's what it was.

White smoke is moisture and I agree with Mr. Bitz you need to get it out and work it then worry about white smoke. Also any time you turn it on, run it long enough to get the engine hot to burn off the condensation that occurs as a result of initial combustion......not burning off condensation is bad for your oil also.....can get moisture contamination.

So what was the outcome here OP? Have you heard back from your dealer yet?

What does the smoke smell like? Does it smell like unburned fuel, or does it have a steamy watery smell to it?

First of all I would like to say my dealer, Fox Valley Truck in Appleton WI has been first class since the day I walk in there looking to buy a tractor. They are a top notch organization. Ok, here’s what we found. I took video on my phone when it smoked for me on two different occasions and I sent it to them so they knew something was definitely wrong and they could see what it was doing and what it looked like. They tested the glow plugs and they were good. They did a compression test and it was right on. They had the oil tested and it came back that there was fuel in the oil. At this point they had it about 4-5 days and it didn’t smoke for them the same as it did for me yet. They took the exhaust manifold off and ran the tractor. Now they could see cylinders 1 and 3 was where the smoke was coming from. They discovered the injectors were leaking in these two cylinders. As luck would have it they were back ordered and had to be shipped from Korea. In the mean time the dealer offered to bring me out a brand new 3725 to use while mine was being worked on. Like I said, “First Class”. I told them that wasn’t necessary and I could wait for mine. So that is why it took me so long to respond as we were waiting for the injectors. They made the repair and delivered it Friday morning and it sat for 3 days while I was out of town. Started it today to put it to work and so far so good.
