What's your favorite farm name?

Our small farm here in KY has been called "Belly Acres" for as long as I can remember. I think it originated when the family tried to divide an inheritance about 1910 or 11. It's been in the family since before the civil war.

I named ours "BadgerSky." Lying on top of the corn bin on a clear night, coyotes calling to each other, the constellations are endless.

I remember one from many years ago: Lower Back Acres

My old neighor's place was called Rock Bottom Ranch and below the gate he had a 4' x 8' sign that clearly read:

Friends welcome.
Relative's by appointment only.
We don't welcome surprises.

I laughed at that sign twice a day for twelve years.

The area where our property is located was known as Ginger Hill because of the ginger sand that used to suck up the wagons on the road. Apparently there was a smell settlement there, at one time, on the edge of the grand kankakee marsh. I thought that Ginger Hill would be a good name for the place, but the farmhouse across the road beat me to it with a nice wooden sign and all. So, Moss Road it is.

We've got plenty!

We call our place the "Leaning Double M Ranch". It was named that due to the floor in the living room in the old house and My wife's and my first names start with M.

I just erected a sign over my drive that reads "MUD-R-DUST ACRES", a conclusion I came to after being on my 30 acre place in Northeast Missouri for a year.
