Whats your favorite rifle?

Winchester Model 1894 30-30 caliber is my favorite for deer hunting in Vt. Just a short side story. Referenced the serial number through the Winchester web page and found out the the rifle was produced in 1902. I knew it was old because I got it from my Uncle who got it from his Uncle etc, ect.
Thought about retiring it at a 100 years and let my boys use it in about 10 years. The only problem is to get it out of my hands. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Take care,

My favorite rifle is a Winchester 32 Special. It's a lever action similiar to a 30-30. It was my Grandpa's gun and it was the first gun I used to go hunting with. He gave it to me awhile back. A gun that I love to shoot all the time is a Henry .22 repeater lever action. I like it because you can shoot all day long for a few bucks worth of shells /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Now when I go hunting big game now though I take my Remington 7mm.

Remington Nylon 66.... the first one of the little .22's to come home here was purchased with "Top Value Stamps"... Mom got it for Dad back in the early 60's, if memory works it was about 14 books. I was as much interested as when we were saving for my bicycle. It has been carried further and killed more game by weight than any other single rifle on the place.

my favorite rifle is my Remington Mohowk 600 in 308. Has a short barrel and is very light, a joy to carry all day afield. And is a real tack driver, at 200yds. can put 3 shots and have the holes in the target touching! I have a Rare Remington gun cane that was made in 1866 but have never shot it, as it is worth too much money. If fact I will be selling it soon if any one is interested in it. Is one of maybe 15 made with the dog head and is percussion and not rim fire. A very rare piece to add to your collection!

Overall favorite, probably a Thompson Center .50 Hawken. I learned to shoot on one, and they are a good all around rifle.

Now, by specific purpose...
Rem 700V .308 = Open range hunting or long range target.
Savage 99 = brush gun
Desert Eagle .44Mag = long range target, short range brush
Mossberg .22 bolt = plinker/varmit

Unfortunately, UPS stole my Desert Eagle while in shipment, and I have not replaced it

JUST ONE! O.K. For deer size game I like my .custom built (by me) 25/.284 w/ a trued 700 action, Hart barrel, Jewel trigger, pillar bedded in a McMillan stock w/ a Luepold 4.5x14 scope. Spits out 100 grain pills @ 3350 Ft/sec muzzle velocity and will easily notch .25" groups all day long provided I do my part. Sometimes game just drops over dead b/4 I shoot because they know the gig is up when I point that stick at them. Ain't America great! We can shoot whatever gun we like (within reason).....and if we can't find one we like, build our own. Editorial comment: Join the NRA if you would like to keep it that way.

Plower,

My thoughts exactly.
For hunting you can't beat the 700 in 270 or 300 mag depending on the size of the game.
For all else the AR-15s are by far the best. Reliable, accurate, and versatile.

My favorite rifle? I like 'em all. Neat one I'm working with is a Swedish model 96 bolt-action made in 1919 (6.5 Swedish caliber). They were all over on the military surplus market a few years ago, and picked this one up for a song at that time. Craftsmanship is excellent. Also just picked up an Enfield "jungle carbine" No. 5 bolt action in .303 British (birthday gift). Nifty micrometer peep sight that would probably cost more than the rifle to build today.

But if I really want to shoot some tiny groups with a kick, I drag out my Remington Sendero in .300 mag, which is a true minute-of-angle rifle.

Winchester Model 88:
Yes I am old enough to have seen one brand new but it was in 308 caliber.
There are lots of nice rifles out there with everyone having a different opinion. I'd like a Mini 14 in 243 if they made them.
