Robert, I think the J. C. Higgins is generally considered to be a very cheap gun, but I never found anything wrong with the ones I've used; nothing wrong with that at all. I even still have my H&R Topper 158. For those not familiar with them, it's a brake open single shot with a hammer. Simply pull the forearm off, break it down, and change barrels. I only have the 30-30 rifle and 20 gauge shotgun barrels, although they also make a .22 jet and 12 gauge barrels for it. Generally considered to be a cheap boy's gun, relatively short stock and barrels, light weight, easy to use.
