What's your most hated weed?

Thistle has got to be #1. Nasty stuff, and the only good way to control it is one plant at a time. I've had to turn my neighbor into the Department of Agriculture for the last 2 years because he refuses to control the thistle on his property. Of course, his lack of effort becomes my problem when the millions of seeds blow into my pastures! I'm hoping the Ag Dept lays a major $fine$ on the guy this year.

Although I don't have many, there are some really awful thorn trees. I don't know if these are honey locust or something else. I do know they will flatten a tire quite easily, and cutting them down means combing the grass for fallen thorns. Again, this looks like a very manual process to get rid of these things.

While I agree that Himalayan blackberry is a weed that is obnoxious to say the least I think that Tansy ragwort (Senecio jacobaea) is for me the worst.

Not only is Tansy ragwort toxic but it is classified as a required control Class B noxious weeds. That means if you have it and the government does not think you are doing enough to control it they will come in and control it for you and then bill you for the cost of doing so.

I was tagged by the County a couple of years ago for having a hemlock plant on my property near the road (I had no idea what it was). Had to dig it up and bag it for removal. No tansy on my property now, but I see plenty along the road between town and home. The county usually has road crews pulling it, but I've not yet seen them this summer.

The only good thing about the blackberries is the fruit in August. I like to keep some of them around just for blackberry cobbler and muffins.
