Thanks for the info. I was looking at that hub on the tappered shaft and wondering if I should take it off. I do have a large puller. Maybe sinse mine is fairly new it will pop off easily. When you put it back should it be torqued or just tightened with a wrench.

Just leave the hub on, let PT deal with it, if not torqued correctly the hub will come loose and destroy the hub and shaft. It is not necesary to remove the hub to remove the motor as it was on early models. Also do not remove the motor bracket with the motor, just remove the 4 bolts holding the motor, will save you some freight, the bracket is heavy.

The hose are #8, not #4 as stated by another poster.

Good luck,
EB

Thanks for the correction...I didn't know this was not necessary on the newer models!

Clarke,
I assume the repair to your wheel motor was successful.
I too have a wheel motor leak that started at about 25 hrs. The left rear wheel motor leaks when the hydraulic fluid is hot and when working the PT hard (lifting, digging, etc.). I called Terry at PT right away and he told me to just watch it and see if it stops or continues to leak. He said if the leak continued he would just send me a replacement wheel motor in exchange for my leaking one. I have had to add about a half a quart of oil per 10 hrs of operating time. As soon as I have time I will call Terry for a replacement. It sounds like they may have had a bad batch of wheel motor seals. I purchased my PT 425 on 5/7/04 and just finished my 50 hr maintenance today.

When my wheel motor leaked Terry did not offer to exchange had to send unit back. After a week of waiting called to find status Terry told me they never received the motor. Tracking the UPS shipment I found they did receive the motor and misplaced it. Anyway almost two weeks latter had the motor back which was the original since I had recorded the serial #. Has worked fine since repair. Have had no other issues with tractor about 90 hrs. at this point. Soon the machine will be put to the test again starting to build garage.
