- 2010 Kubota MX5100 (sold) - 2016 Kubota MX 5200 (sold) - 2018 Kubota MX5800
Hello,
I'm purchasing a 2018 MX5800 that will be delivered soon. I'm kicking around adding wheel weights to this tractor. I'm already getting Rimguard filled rear tires to specs, which should add about 550 pounds per tire. I've owned an MX5100 & an MX5200 so I'm familiar with this model & what it can do. Specifically when hauling wood in the past, I put about half a face cord in the bucket at a time to haul out of the woods. The terrain isn't level, there's humps/bumps sometimes 2 feet in elevation change. When trying to backup at times in cramped quarters in the woods with trees around, the rear end has been too light even with loaded tires. I was originally just going to do ballast off the 3pt, but in using a box blade or tiller, it winds up getting bumped around with other trees we're trying to save.
Sooooooo, I was told by the dealer I can put up to 3 weights on each rim max, giving me another 600+ pounds. I don't want to cause any damage to the tractor or drivetrain. My dad's saying to be careful I don't in turn cause a strain on the front axle by "encouraging" me to lift more than I should. I don't want to overload the tractor. My thoughts are to help ballast it without having to add/remove something (off the 3pt). I currently live in a subdivision and don't have room to store the tractor in my garage with anything hanging off the 3pt. I could use extra weight in the winter plowing/moving snow though and I don't want the township harassing me about having anything sitting outside.
The flip side, I don't want the tractor too heavy (if there is such a thing) to rut up the yard or other areas, especially when it's wet. Then I'll have to fix that. I'm comparing Kubota weights with hardware I was quoted $734 for 4 weights. Everything Attachments has a package of 10 (must buy 10 I already asked them) aftermarket for $1,068 with free shipping (I would use 6 and sell the rest). Looking for thoughts and if anyone has experience with either of these different wheel weights. Thanks
