When did I lose control?

It all started when my wife said that she wanted to get a "Show" quality Akita puppy and start going to dog shows. Several years later, and several dogs later, we now have a stainless steel dog bathtub. It was only $2,400 and Amazon is letting her make 6 equal payments without interest.

I admit to doing more then my share of dumb things, like getting horses, getting goats, getting chickens, but getting show dogs was by far the dumbest of the dumb things I ever agreed to!!!

While I love my dogs, and enjoy having them, the level of crazy is impossible to describe. The only thing worse is what those silly ribbons end up costing us.

Here she is in all her glory with our newest puppy. This is in a 12x30 room that I'm building between our house and our garage. It's only going to get worse for me.

Count your blessings, Eddie. Like you, I married an East Texas gal...and am proud of it. She has more money tied up in sewing machines, than I do in my tractor. Look at it this way; you never really had control, only influence on someone who puts her family first, but is also an individual. Keep on truckin' and God Bless!
Mark me down for another one; sewing room looks like a major sewing center from quilting machines, embroidery machine(s)!, and every kind of sewing accessory every made. And my poor little tractor and my poor little packed full work shop (40'x60') still has room for just one more toy - yet to be discovered.
Oh well, I'm happy if she's happy.

Once Upon a Time I came upon an old man at a shooting range who had the best philosophy when it came to dealing with your better half:

"When she comes home with her shopping, you just smile and nod and ask for the receipt politely. You note down what it cost in a little notepad. When the cost equals what you'd like to get, a new gun, a trip or something. You go out and get it for yourself. If she fusses, you just show her the book."

I think I was 11 at the time, and too polite to mention if it worked out well for him. However he and his wife did seem happy, so it couldn't have been too bad.

I made the mistake of getting my wife quilting lessons for a Christmas present. Its the gift that keeps on giving.

Shes converted half the basement to quilt room. Long arm machine plus 2 other sewing machines. Took over entire wall cabinet for material storage.

Converted my air hocky table to her working bench.

But keeps her happy……so im Happy.

Mind you, this is a woman who used to fix and sew my old clothes by throwing them out.

My wife started quilting a couple years ago.

There's a local woman that'll do the long arm work for a very reasonable price. My wife added it up and she'd never break even on purchasing that machine..... thank goodness. ;)

Had a pair of OLD spinster Aunts. They had a little 1 story building, about 30'x30' that was their "quilting" building, where they quilted with other like minded local ladies.
Now this is in north Mississippi, it doesn't get very cold here.
When they passed there were a ton of quilts to disperse.
I just try to imagine all the stories that were told during their quilting sessions.
/edit
When I wrote a ton I meant the guestimated space would take up a 20'x20'x9'H room floor to ceiling of folded packed quilts.

I have a couple of widows for clients that are big into quilting. They all meet once a week at the quilting place, and just about every month, they travel somewhere around the country for a quilting event. I have no idea how much money they spend on this, but they are both pretty wealthy. What's funny is that I've known them for over a decade, and I've never seen them working on a quilt at home, or a quilt that they have made. Both of them have had me remodel a room in their houses for quilting, and build shelves for storing all their stuff. It's either a great social club, or something else is happening that I haven't figured out. Actual quilting seems to be a cover story for whatever they are really up to!!!

I could never figure out why quilts were so expensive and craft fairs and such until my wife started quilting. While the materials can get expensive, the amount of time and effort that goes into one quilt is quite large. I had no idea.
