When do you start and stop mowing the grass where you live?

Vermont is definitely experiencing changing seasons with climate change. Meanwhile, ther'e's usually some grass for me to cut into November. This year, which has been cool and wet since june in above normal abundance, the grass is just growing nonstop. Looks great, but no respite from mowing. And like the last 4 years, it's been warm in October, we had only one minor frost, barely touched the tomatoes. I see 25 degrees in the forecast for wednesday though, so we'll see. Meanwhile, it's November and I still have grass to mow and leaves to blow.

We call climate change; summer, fall, winter and spring.

Generally February through November in northern Alabama with the first and last month (to two months) generally slowing to every other week or once a month. The rest of the mowing season is once or twice a week just to keep things in check.

August may also slow down some depending on the year as it tends to be a drier month.

Never more than once per week for me. But then I do not have that hot humid weather you have even though it may feel like it sometimes.

Normally we mow 24-26 times a summer and I put maybe 42 hours on the mower. This year I lost count of the times but am at 57 hours and still have three weeks to go. I mowed last Tuesday and it was so thick and ragged I had to mow again two days later and will again in a day or so. I mow at 3 1/2" and don't mow as much as my neighbors.

While I look forward to mowing in the spring, I can't wait for this season to end.

Funny how different the weather/climate is even with both of us only a couple hundred miles apart. Last few years we've had at least some snow on the ground continuously after early-mid Nov, though it doesn't look like we're getting any anytime soon this year. You probably have gotten more snow in recent winters than we have...seems like all the big storms are either coastal or track well south of us.

My last mowing was about 3 weeks ago, mower cleaned, oil changed and put away. Hasn't really grown significantly since then, though it is still nice and green from all the rain.

About mid spring, swear I can see it growing, did it about 4 days ago and it needs doing again, lots of rain and warm days.
Last can be anytime from mid autumn to a month into winter.

I'm worried that the above average precipitation will continue into winter with weather cold enough to make it snow. We'll see. This week, if the forecast is right, will be one of the few where it hasn't been completely cloudy most of the week. Though they've completely revised the forecast on sunday from the projected clouds and intermittent showers to one that's a bit more sunny.

Really seemed like we had Washington state's weather since June. So muddy I couldn't do some of the things I wanted to do with my tractor because the ground is just too wet. Even now, my field is only half cut because of rain.

If you don't like snow, why live in Vermont?

I actually love snow...most the time (by most the time, don't like it when I'm driving, but enjoy watching it snow (sipping on a liquid refreshment) and I enjoy snow blowing).
Plus, snow provides a lot of water for the aquifer so our wells don't go dry. That's a real bummer, f you've never experienced it

Love snow, but dislike shoveling it in proportion to years of age. Also, our water table is high because we've had higher than average precipitation for months, which is why I was wondering about what winter was going to be like this year.

Last winter was a bismal snow year for us in the lake superior snow belt but NOAA now says we'll get some el-nino effect and get good snow again. Last year we were about 100" short of normal.

Here's a link to long range--1 year-- weather forecasting by people that have a pretty good record. Last I looked it showed a warm and wet winter for New England and those are the conditions for big snows.

I used to live in northern New England and just when people got lulled into complacency we got whacked with a huge snowfall. Ditto on the reverse. I knew a guy that actually moved because the mild winters and his fear that global warming would kill his downhill skiing. The very next year was lots of snow early, late and way too much of it. The perfect storm for skiing.

Can't remember when i last mowed. And with freezing temps and snow forecast tonight, i don't see mowing any more. I hate grass! I should mow it short and often just to put it in its place. But i let it get a good jump on me between each mowing.

So right now it is good and long and strong and i plan to not mow again. Why!? IDK. I just hate mowing grass. I would not make a good 3-5 acre grass-farmer.

In central south Ohio we start in mid-late March and end around Thanksgiving This year it's been a banner time for grass to grow and need to be cut. We didn't even have a brownout in August and it's just been mow, mow and mow some more. I'm tuckered out.

When do other parts of the country start and stop mowing?

I usually try to start at 5 pm or 1700 hrs and try to quit at dark.

Here in northern Indiana, I usually start mowing in late March or early April, and finish up in October.
This was the first year I remember mowing in November, as I had to mow, for the last time I hope, on Monday. All the rain and warm weather lately was to blame.

Year round in SF Bay Area until drought stopped watering and grass turns to dirt.

72 hours after bomb cyclone the dirt turned to a carpet of green... it goes/grows that quick with copious water.
