We have a rule around my house ( comes actually from my farmer grandpa ), we don't plant anything until the first weekend in June. Too many crops lost to Memorial Day frost. With that said, it will usually start to tease us in May with some 60 degree days. April seems like an endless 40 degree nightmare day after day. I have 24 inches of settled snow on my snow measuring stick right now ( thank you Lake Superior )...

March. The first plants can be put in during May. We usually get our last frost in late May. We have lots of snow now and it's quite cold.

Breaking cold weather records all over the map in Western Québec. The wind is constantly to the North, due to the Earth wobble. Therefore, some regions will gel abnormaly high temps, while others the opposite. Right now, we hover between minus eleven, to seven degrees Farenheight. I dont think the ground hog come out last week... That means winter for another five weeks.

Around here it usually starts warming up pretty good around 9:am this time of year. When I go for my walk at 5:30 am I wear a hooded flannel shirt but it's gone by 8:00 or 8:30 then tee shirt and shorts.This year around the 1st of Jan. we had a cold spell for about a week and I actually had to put on long pants.We had a pretty good frost one morning that knocked our banana tree down but it's recovering.

Usually starts warming up toward end of March here. 21*F right now and have to go out and plow snow thanks to Lake Ontario with more coming tonight..

February here. We start planting our spring garden during the Ides of March. We have gone earlier than that before and ended up replanting.

Winter is over here when the UPS drivers start wearing shorts. I think they have some sort of contest to see who can bear being cold the most.
Usually mid-May before it gets warm much. We don't plant summer garden until Memorial Day or that following week either. Some years the soil temperature is too low for good germination until mid-June. Or, seeds sprout and emerge but sit there shivering for two weeks with no growth.
Running well below normal now, especially for the daily high temperature, like the rest of the Northeast.

We will see low 60s today, which might be nice for a change. But starting around Feb 12-14, the middle and eastern parts of the country are going to see below normal temps for a couple weeks at least. Don't get too comfortable with this brief warmup!!
Here in the mid-atlantic, we have seen storm after storm shift northward and pound New England with snow (sorry Boston). The coming pattern shift could change that. I'd like to see at least one 8" + dump hit our area, please! I took off my rear blade last week to tow my trailer around, so I am now tempting snow....
